Blur Or Oasis?

Featured Replies

Who was the best band between Oasis and Blur?

Mantronix....! :o

I like Blur but, Oasis it has to be.

Limpy was right the first time - Slade. Oh, alright - Oasis, unquestionably. Garro, can you make the next one a bit more challenging?

That is certainly a hard question. A bit like asking would you prefer dog shit on your left foot or your right foot :o

I guess, thinking back to a time when these 2 bands were fighting for supremacy, neck to neck I would give my vote to....Supergrass

I was just listening to the 'Parklife' album and had forgotten how good it was. Definitely a highlight of the 90's. At the time I would have said Oasis were the better band but now would say Blur.

The problem you have is if you ask today's teenagers that question , they will in all probability answer " who" ?

The pair of them will never quite reach greta status despite their ego's........Now SLADE

:D:o:D

Thats my answer too.

I have to admit I still turn up Blur's "Woo Hoo" song up whenever it comes on the wireless (I think it's real title is Song #2 - Don't quote me on that though)

Yes, I hear that Slade are still big on the pub circuit around Swindon. It is quite handy for them as they like the main post office there which has a ramp for when they go and collect their pensions. Rock on grandads.

I didn't like either very much, but Blur were much more famous outside the UK.

They wouldn't be the same without Noddy Holder at the microphone.

E: Yeah, okay, you know what I mean...

Early Blur (i.e. around the time of "There's no other way") but they tailed off and went a bit odd. Oasis then came into their own.

I thought this was a thread about seeing a mirage in the wilderness! :o

I liked both ok.

Personally I think Blur were better songwriters but Oasis had the rough edge that made them more rocknroll.

Ridiculous idea that you would have to choose, really.

Being from Manchester and they support Man City, it's got to be Oasis. No question about it. However, i did like Damon Albarn when he did the Gorillaz stuff

Such an old question. Been asked many times.

Tut, gawd Jock, like you're just so with it dude..... Is it a Mod thang.... :o

Oasis.

But don't like their antics - pretencious bastards pretending to be the next Beatles etc.

But still prefer Bruce and the E Street Band any time - Rosalita come sit by my fire, just showing my age.

Do you recognise this from Bruce.

'The machinist climbs his ferris wheel like a brave, and the fire eater's lying in a pool of sweat victim of a heatwave.'

I went through for all of ten minutet of my "Bruce Memorabila" which includes posters, cds, vinyls and on-line chats and i can only circumspect the question so presume it is that other one which we so enjoy - the one that that other band took for themselves.

Gotcha, Je tes eu,

BLINDED BY THE LIGHT

Take that that and that again

We don't need to know about your obscure music from the 40's :o

In the day when it mattered (about 12 years ago now) Oasis hands down. Blur had about 3 good tunes, Oasis had about 25.

Agree with MBJ, Alburn has found his niche with Gorrillaz, but it took him a long time, and definitely nowhere nere to the the class of the Gallaghers.

And it saved a few Manc cars from getting robbed as well, Blur were still nicking cockney cars as they never really managed to get 'there'.

'Slowly walking down the hall......faster than a cannonball'

Sheer class. I was a musician myself in my younger days (brass), and find that I have the most synical ear for music these days, but Oasis were spot on, even if they were w-anchors.

I have to caveat this - their new stuff is just rehashing the 90's, and is selling out in my opinion, desperation from a few costly divorces (and years of substance abuse)?

Used to prefer Blur, mainly due to Park Life and Song 2, but seen Oasis playing live two years ago in BKK for the first time and was quickly converted.

Meadish - the choice thing is a bit silly, but there was a fair bit of rivalry going on between the two back in the 'day...

Here it is...

Wild Billy´s Circus Story

(The Wild, the Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle , 1973)

The machinist climbs his Ferris wheel like a brave

And the fire-eater´s lying in a pool of sweat, victim of the heat wave

Behind the tent the hired hand tightens his legs

On the sword swallower´s blade

And circus town´s on the short wave

The runway lies ahead like a great false dawn

Fat Lady, Big Mama, Missy Bimbo sits in her chair and yawns

And the man bee slides in his cage, sniffing popcorn

And the midget licks his fingers and suffers Missy Bimbo´s scorn

And circus town´s been born

And the press roll drummer go ballerina to and fro´

Cartwheeling up on that tightrope

With the cannon blast lightning flash movin´ fast through the tent Mars bent

He´s gonna miss his fall

Oh God save the human cannon ball

And the flying Zambinis watch Margarita doing neck twist

And the ringmaster gets the croud to count along

"Ninety-five, ninety-six, ninety-seven"

A ragged suitcase in his hand he steals silently away from the circus grounds

And the highway is haunted by them carnival sounds

They dance like a great grease-paint ghost on the wind

A man in baggy pants, a lonely face, a crazy grin

Runnin´ home to some small little higher town

Jesus send some good women to save all your clowns

And the circus boy dances like a monkey on barbed wired

And the baker romances with a junky, she´s got a flat tire

Now elephants dance real funky

And the band play like a jungle fire

Circus town´s on the live wire

And the strong man Samson sets the little midget way up on his shoulders

Way up

And carries them on down the midway

Past the kids, past the sailors

Towards two dimly lit trailers

And the Ferris wheel turns and turns like it ain´t ever gonna stop

And the circus boss leans over and whispers into the little boy´s ear

Hey son you wanna try the big top

All aboard, Nebraska´s our next stop.
