What's Going On Across The Road From Gullivers?

Featured Replies

Last night walking up Soi 5 to Gullivers for a bite to eat I noticed across the street some of those riot barriers blocking off an area for cars to park. The thing is that there must have been 15 to 20 men of apparently African and Middle Eastern descent stood there chatting and talking on their mobile phones. I watched them for a while and they all seemed very interested in the comings and goings in Gullivers.

I dont want this to turn into some kind of racist flame fest. I was just curious as to what they are doing there? Has it become a place to hang out and meet friends? Are they congregating before heading out somewhere together? It was just really strange, they were stood there chatting but their attention seemed fixed on Gullivers, as if they were visiting the zoo and were hanging out observing the 'Neanderthal Man In Bar' enclosure.

Just curious thats all.

Can't edit topic, should be Road not Raod. Me and my darn sausage fingers. Can't seem to type proper!

What you observed was the daily meeting of the sandals, drugs and passport sellers. Soi 3/1 which is just the behind the group you observed is commonly know as "Soi Africa". Your sighting was probably one of the largest on record. During Muslim prayer they tend to move to Soi 5 because of the wailing and excessive noise on Soi Africa. They do tend to stare a bit at the goings on at Gulliver's. They do not go in as a rule because they have no coin of the realm.

About every six weeks the BIB sweep in and arrest most of them for high crimes and misdemeanors which drastically reduces their numbers for a while. Fear not, they are harmless if you avoid direct eye contact and do not attempt to do any business with them.

The war on drugs should see some serious sweeps going through there if you are right. Thanks for the answer Mr. G

^ why do you say that?

Gary A suggested that some of them might be there selling drugs. Apparently there is a new war on drugs going on at the moment although it seems a lot quieter than the last one. If Gary A is correct, and there is a war on drugs happening then I should imagine the police will be sweeping through the area regularly.

guys hanging around a girlie bar and looking interested...how strange! :o sigh! what's this world coming to these days.... :D
