I'm thinking of travelling by road thru this route : Thailand - Laos - Vietnam - China, then catch an one-way flight from China to Bangkok, possible? any problem on border crossing?

If you mean self drive then you will have problems.

If travelling by bus etc. then it should be ok so long as you have the right visas.
