did anyone see that ceremony in kata-karon yesterday?? They had axes and saws, walking round their garden shaking their heads and then every couple of minutes swinging their axes into their backs which drew blood and then started to cut at their tongues?? Any ideas what thsi might be called?? It was definately chines as they were using flags with chinese script to hide behind when they werent hurting themselves

if this helps Ive just found out some of the rituals are done during the vegetarian ceremonies, cant say I know when that is though.

james, it more than likely had something to do with the vegetarian festival that takes place in october. i had an episode like this around my neighborhood in february and the neighbors told me that it was the birthday of one of the most prestiged piercers...did you get photos?

ah it could well be summin like that then. I didnt get any photos as I didnt have my camera but I did youtube the vegetarian festival in Phuket and they were wearing the same type of aprons they dod and doing exactly the same stuff mnus the piercings. They were giving out chinese scripture to people decorated with fingerprints of their blood, very different to what Ive seen before. Are there any other type of these type of things going on in Phuket?? All very fascinating

wait until late september/early october and you will see it all during the vegetarian festival. it's religious frenzy at its best!
