A year or so ago we were told that all the Coconut Palms were in imminent danger of being wiped out by the coconut

beetle. Various preventative measures were tried including beetle eating wasps.

Was the programme successful? I still see the odd Palm tree which looks as though it is being attacked. But in general it all seems to be very quiet. Anyone know what is happening?

The palm is actualy affected by a Palm Weevil - It lays its eggs in the palm fronds and then when the grub hatches it munches its way through the palm and grows into a weevil and moves on through the plantation

I remember reading an article on it when in Samui around 4 yrs ago. And it mentioned it was a problem that the Goverment Agricultural Dept are always researching & monitoring outbreaks . Maybe check with them
