Some of us have it.. Some of us might not :o

I am one individual who doesn't. I know, i know... Its a stupid thing to live in a foreign country "without" Insurance. But the fact is my policy ran out from the UK, and faced with the prospect of forking out another large lump sum, i though maybe it was worth while me looking at options in Chiang mai.. Bupa for example? I noticed they have an outlet along the highway near "tesco's" i think it was.. Or possibly an independant advisor would be another choice !!

If anybody is/was/has, been in my situation, or indeed took out a health insurance policy in Chiang mai, i would really appreciate some feedback, and cost prices of any experinces with Health Insurance..

Looking at staying maybe 6-12 months..

Cheers :D

Looks like you should have gotten a travel policy.. There are any number of insurance companies selling decent and some not-so-decent policies at largely varying prices. Just google it. But you might find it harder with Thai offices just for time-consuming practical reasons. Not always so, but might be.

Trying to get insurance here is like pullin teeth sounds like theres a gap in the market for someone that actually responds or responds in a timely manner

Hmm. don't want to sound like i am sucking up to anyone but ...

I read this thread earlier today and emailed this guy Tony. I wanted to know which of the companies that he sells, offer family policies. He called me to obtain further details within (I would say 5-10 minutes), and promised to follow-up with an email soon after.

I am writing a book now, and am doing a lot of research incl. sending emails to private and public agencies in Thailand to get various bits of info. The contrast is overwhelming. I would say that people in Thailand who reply to emails (EVER) are certainly the exception to the rule. There are some, the Bank of Thailand is a good example. five emails to five people/email addresses over several weeks. I got one (automated)message back saying my email was deleted unopened, the rest just ... nothing. Jack-asses. Professionalism? International competitiveness? Customer service? ni-arai?

A big thumbs-up to efficient businesses (or public agencies) who give a dam_n.

I've never dealt with EInsure Thailand, but I do agree that their website is EXTREMELY CLEAR, detailed and comprehensive; yet easy to understand... even without emailing a question; as compared to 'another' alternative which is by far not as clear even when answering detailed emailed questions.

Note however, that the 'another' I'm talking about is not bad at all and is quite okay compared to calling the horribly non-understandable (answered by Thai 'english' speaking staff) big companies... that 'another' is maybe just not at par with E-Insure as of yet. ( I wish them the best and I'm optimistic they can improve).

and now in the interests of historical accuracy ....

within 24 hours of writing the above post I had a reply from staff at the Bank of Thailand, and since that time they have been particularly helpful in providing information for my book project

behold the power of Thaivisa !!
