Hey guys,

does anybody fly with the discount airlines running in Thailand....namely Nok air and 1.2.go or whatever its called..how are they? I understand the obvious things like decreased leg room and less checked baggage, but any other significant negatives? Planning on flying with them a fair bit when I come over for internal flights. Saw on their websites that they do AUD $30 flights internally from HKT to pretty much anywhere within the LOS. considerably cheaper than airasia.

I always go Nokair. I like to fly Nok Plus as their normal seats are a bit cramped, but can live without if not available.

Generally, it all runs pretty smoothly.

Always fly Nok Air, v. good. You will find actual prices are almost double to that quoted on web as taxes are added on after.

They only quote the fare without the fuel tax, VAT etc.

I got to the counter with Nok having already had a reservation for two months, and they had given away my seat. I was not late for check in. They said "sorry, flight full". I ended up flying on the stewadesses jump seat after arguing with them for 45 minutes. I'll never fly Nok again.

Although people bag on Air Asia, I prefer them.

Also, Thai Air has a special going now, 3 stops within Thailand for US 159$, which seems like a bargain.

True. The only one to avoid - and please do avoid it - is 1-2-GO. Look for all the blogs by professionals in the industry who are really in the know. Nothing has improved since The Big One!

Amoung budget airlines, I find Nok Air better than Air Asia. Usually fly from BKK-Hadyai with them and normally on time, though they did cancel one flight I had to take to another flight later in the day.

Ticket prices like others here mention don't give you the real price and it will almost double after taxes and fuel surcharges are added.

Yes, do avoid 1-2 Go :o

Nuthin wrong with 1 - 2 Go.

Only airline honest enough to quote full fare online, no extras added on as ya finalise ya bookings..

One prang does not frighten me off, if that is wot ya mean by , "The big one"..

If it did, I would have to stay in bed everyday, but that is where most people kick the bucket.

Hope you do not use cars and buses.

Yea, 1- 2-Go is great within Thailand.

I use them for my Honkers trips, beats all the rest.

Hi Zed Pete (or is it Zee Pete)!

I always enjoy your posts and, sorry, this is the first one I've seen with which I MUST disagree. For legal reasons with which I am sure our Mods would agree, all I can say on this is: please research online and look for the blogs.

Yes, I use the roads every day and bad drivers and bald tyres can be spotted in moments. But unless you know what is going on (and what is NOT going on) in an airline, who among we mere passengers can make sensible judgements over our safety?

Cheers guys nok air seems like the go! And 2,000THB to fly anywhere internal in Thailand still isn't too much. I think thats very cheap. Especially considering the cost of fuel these days!

I'm not sure if there are legal issues, as much on the 12Go crash has already been published on TV. This thread for example:

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?sh...2829&st=850

There is a link to report (post 852) that is particularly critical of the airline's safety policies. I personally will never fly with this airline and will encourage friends a family to avoid it too.

Probably fine from a passengers point of view, but you don't get to see their maintenance history, or study the backgrounds of the pilots.

Nok are part owned by Thai Airlines who, at least hopefully, are professional at aircraft maintenance etc.

Hi Zpete,

Have to agree with the other posters here and their comments on 1-2-Go. If you care to search on pprune.org (Professional Pilots Rumour Network) for either "1-2-Go" or their sister airline "Orient Thai" you may think twice before getting on one of their planes.

The "One prang" might frighten you off if you understood the reasons behind it.

I personally fly Air Asia and would recommend them or Thai who seem to be more competive now internally.

My experience on HKT-DMK/DMK-CNX routes;

Nok checkin is slow, inefficient and error prone. TG does a better job of it and has more checkin desks.

Nok Pax are regular folks, no extremes in types of people. "Business class" on Nok isn't much different than economy so don't bother. No priority boarding either. You can pick your seats on the Nok website ahead of time. The FAs are polite and try to help. They even smile.

Nok planes were newer and cleaner than the creaking inventory at TG.

TG caters to a wide range of Pax from low end scum, to high end folks and everyone in between. No one on a Nok air flight ever stuck his bare dirty feet in my lap as was the case on one of my TG flights. Only on TG have I had a guy with lice sitting next to me. TG doesn't let you select seats on its website, so I say <deleted> them.

TG FA's are unfriendly and hardly crack a smile, even in business class.

All Nok air flights were ontime +/- 5 minutes.

TG flights were late. + 15-30 minutes

Nok baggage handling/delivery is faster than TG's. One irritant though at DMK, last Nok flight I saw some poor cat delivered that was left on the baggage carousel to go around and around, probably terrified in its kennel as the PAX shoved and pushed each other for bags.

Overall, Nok is ok, no reason to pick TG over it, even if it means you want star alliance points. The money you save on the airfare, is worth more than the points you get on TG.

Wouldn't go as far as calling Nok Plus business class, though they use old fashioned business class seats. More like a kind of premium economy. For someone of a larger stature, it's worth it.

They give you a little snack, but it's just sweet crap.

Yep...Nok is fine especially the upgraded ticket which is v good value. Agreed, it is more a premium section....not Business. I have switched to Thai because they have become more realistic on pricing...well on my last trip anyway. The $159 for 3 legs?? Sounds a real good deal.

I couldn't fly 1-2-Go again because of the real and serious doubts about safety, aircraft age, management orders to piklots, etc.

You are a brave man Zpete!!! Buy what the heck....I'll buy you a pint to calm the nerves!! LOL.

Yeah 1-2 DIE !!! DO not fly this airlline or the parent airlinle Thai Orient. These folks are T land at its worst in regards to safety issue, it is not worth the savings ...just google it and start reading.....ION fact I would not fly any discount airlines in Asia, there just isn't the same regarding value of life, if the plane isn't maintained properly and crashes..., well it's just Karma that you die that way. This goes for every aspect in daily living too. Just look at the power lines...
