I'm trying to find info (including maps) about some public bus routes in CM. The CM public transport website seems helpful but I can't read it. I'd appreciate if someone can help me with routes 11, 12 and 13.

Are the above routes running or are they proposed routes? Every description I've seen of CM's bus routes only goes through route 10. Also, can anyone tell me which of these routes are operated by songthaew and which are operated by white buses?

I would appreciate any help I can get! Thanks.

Looks like someone was very drunk when drawing those. :o

I think I see line 11 sometimes. Not sure which other buses still operate. The routes completely don't make sense, so the bus service has been a very predictable failure so far.

It's probably not worth your trouble, but you can go to the Arcade bus station and see which buses are running, as they have a terminus of sorts there. There are a few lines, but infrequent service, no maps or schedules to speak of, and hilariously unresponsive staff will probably make you regret that you went to check it out -- the link you already found is more updated than anything they will give you.

They all appear to be white buses though, from what I've seen on the road.

I would also like some clarification about the bus. Here is one map I found http://chiangmaibus.com/images/way_big.gif

I have used #4 and #6. According to this map #4 doesn't exist but it really does. It runs out of Payap University and can get you to CM university via the airport. I used #6 recently and was able to get to the Night Bazaar area from Payap. #6 runs by carrefour to Macro,Night Bazaar, airport, etc. You should ask the driver or attendant whether they stop near where you are going, since it seems to vary with the whim of the driver. Anyhow, it is a pretty good service, comfortable and cheap and they will stop anywhere on the route at your request.

Sorry, I don't know anything about routes 11-13 but I have seen #13 near here on the west side of the highway from Carrefour.

From my balcony I can watch the busses leave Payap. I just saw the #11 making its way to Payap. According to the map it would leave Payap and enter Tha Pae gate at some point.

Welcome to CM, LA. I like you came from a city where the bus system worked pretty good.

Here it is a different story. Trying to figure it out is an exersize in futility. I think it is more like a school bus system run for the students :o . I could tell you stories about the 3 weeks I spent trying. Gave it up and got a motorcyle. My advice is take the red taxi

and forget about " Da Bus" :D . Cheers.

I've been in Chaing Mai for about two weeks so far and here's what I know. The #2 bus definitely exisits. I've seen that basically every day I've been here. But...it's definitely not running the route from the map Stanoly linked to. I see it cruising around the outskirts of the old city, and that map doesn't show it going anywhere near the old city.

Just within the past couple of days, I've seen the #11 bus. So I think it may be a new route. From the sign on the side of the bus, it goes between the Arcade Bus Station and the Night Market.

I've also within the past couple of days seen a bus that looks like it's labeled 6L. Not sure what to make of that one.

Hi,

I don't live in CM but whenever I visit there I try to use the public bus, more as a matter of principle than for real benefits so far. I try to use the bus (don't know the number) from the intersection of Huay Kaew road and the highway - it goes on the highway to a bus station, then back onto the highway to the arcade Bus station. It is quick, cheap and comfortable, but sometimes have to wait a long time (it will stop anywhere on the route). I think it is worth trying to encourage its use so that they might improve the service as the red taxis are sometimes a rip-off, cause uneccessary clogging of roads and polluting. One other thing is that the red taxi drivers deliberately lobbied for a poor service, restricting it to less popular roads because they were afraid it would affect their business. I resent that for the second major city in LOS, the public transport is held ransom by these guys. I got an incomprehensible map from the conductor and also from Arcade bus station desk where you can catch the bus. The municipal authorities are looking at expanding the service but I guess they will need good stats on the initial service to justify that.

Hi,

just looked the bus maps on the web site - seems the bus I meant is the number 11. The maps are just about comrehensible as some of the destinations are written in English

Couldn't agree more with Tyke. The busses need support and ridership. I use the #6 3 or 4 times a week to get to the center of town. The map shows accurately its route. I usually get off at the Night Bazaar area. I have seen the #2 along the moat but it does not come out to where I live now, near Carrefour. I have timed them from Payap and they run about every 30 minutes. Drivers of the red pickups demand 80 baht for the same trip. I notice the schedule on the bus indicates service until 6:30 PM , however.
