I've long wondered where to find stypic pencils or powder in Thailand. I've looked in the more likely places like near razors and razor blades in stores, but no luck. I tried twice asking pharmacy girls, and they had no idea what I was talking about. (Don't they ever nick their legs or pits when shaving?)

I have started using the Gel you can get at Tesco with a lot of Japanese writing on it and it is great stuff. I have never had smoother shaves but it takes 30 seconds to a minute on your face before you shave to get the full effect of the beard softners.

Had a friend send me the styptic pencils from overseas, not available in Thailand. Haven't used them though because don't cut myself with the great gel I use.

You can use salt and it has a similar effect as a styptic pencil, just not as strong.

You can get excellent shaving soap at Crabtree & Evelyn at Emporium, but it's overpriced.

Somebody around here mentioned English Leather shaving soap in Thailand but I don't know where he got it.

Otherwise, you can just use a slick soap like Dove or English Lavendar w/ a drop or two of rich shampoo. Or you can go for cream. Larger Body Shops sell their world-class cream in tubes or tubs.

Boots in Thailand has some kind of little medicated sheets that stop bleeding from razor cuts. I bought some, but haven't had to use them yet.

No styptic pencils in LOS even in Boots. No good oil either like Somersets. All has to be imported.

Even Thai razor blades made by Gilette are lower quality than in the west. Expensive but crap.

Some Thai local markets sell Astra (Czech), much cheaper at 20B and pretty good too--as well as Dorco (Korean) (a bit rough, but only 10-15B a pack); more international groceries like Friendship and Best in Pattaya may have Feather (Japan) (about the same price as Gillette) and BIC Platinum (cheaper than Gillette, about the same quality to me anyway).

Well, I've been wetshaving for years and so I happen to notice this kind of stuff.
