hi guys. my first post here. a bit of background - i'm from bangalore, india and here we keep hearing about the wonderful biking scene in thailand. believe it or not, things are rather lacklustre and frustrating here in india with companies dilly dallying over launching powerful machines. we keep having to make do with detuned commuter bikes.

anyway, i'm a member of this indian corum and came across this thread:

the guy who started the thread is a famous tuner in the southern indian city of chennai. he's fitted an NSR 150 engine sourced from singapore onto a locally made bajaj pulsar. unfortunately he's not updated the thread.

i have an old suzuki shaolin (not sure if guys in thailand have heard of it) lying unused at home. at first i thought of fitting a piston imported from thailand (they are freely available for yamaha RXs here). then i re read this thread and thought of trying to source an NSR engine etc from thailand instead (i believe it should be available alot cheaper than in singy).

this is where i wanted to ask some of you guys whether this is feasible? do you know someone reliable who i can contact? while surfing, i came across this:

i've emailed them but haven't received a reply yet. anyone know if they are reliable (assuming they do reply to my email and say they can source me the NSR).

this is probably a tall order (or maybe not, since it's already been done in india) but i'm optimistic. many thanks in advance :o

Try http://www.mocyc.com/index.php. Its in Thai but you should be able to do searches for NSR 150s.

Loads of folks scrapping NSR150s at the moment; basically heavy, old, thirsty bikes that need autolube. 2 strokes are out of fashion in Thailand now. Also once the RC valve servo breaks, no rc valve operation and thus no performance. I was advised you can replace the motor in the servo, assuming the servo gears haven't lost teeth/worn/stuck. This servo new costs money (5000 THB I was quoted). With the NSR, common/important wearing out parts are cheaply available here; anything not important to the basic functioning of the bike (like the fuel level sensor) are mega expensive. I was advised some parts from the earlier NSRs come from Japan, and are thus expensive.

I have an NSR150 waiting for my free time to fix it up; just had a new piston and liner installed. Some problems with the carb; anyway no time to fix it up at present.

I also have the shop manual for the NSR150 if anyone needs it.

The NSR's are really cheap right now. I just had my cousin pick up a 1995 NSR RR for me for 7,000 baht. It was off of mocyc.com . If you look around thailand, they are all over. It was/is a popular bike, and people do seem to be dumping them lately as they start wearing out. The problem is that you will need someone in Thailand to buy it, check it out, and mail it to you.

Keep in mind too that there are different types of NSR. The last model, the NSR SP, is the one with the 'pro-arm' suspension and the highest output engine. The other models, like my NSR RR, does not make as much power. So just because it is an NSR, does not necessarily mean it makes 39 ps.

You might be interested in this thread that I started up swapping a 500cc engine into an NSR.500CC NSR Engine swap If you can import a dirtbike engine from the USA (like ebay) you may be able to build a large cc bike.

thanks for the info guys. i guess the biggest problem would be that it's a bit difficult for me to come down to bangkok because of work. i'll probably see if any of my friends are willing to do it.

I was at a large Honda dealer on BKK on the weekend and picked up about 7000 baht of new parts new Rad 1600 baht, proper endless chain 3000 baht (they of course could not believe I wanted new sprockets to go with the new chain, so did not order them... :D ), full decal kit, new air intake tubes, and inner fairing plastic bits for my SP, but in changing them out, I realized I need a few more.

I tried to get the dealership to order me the part number book, so that I could phone and get them to have the bits I need read for the next trip up there (it took about 3 days for the first order to come into the dealership), but "apparently" it is out of print??? Probably just an excuse.... :D

The other thing that they could not do for me was to source some decent rubber for my bike.... anyone know where I could get stickier Dunlop or Bridgestone tires for the 150?

Wondered if anyone would have a .PDF of that document?
