Two armed men rob Bangkok Bank's Suvarnabhumi Airport

BANGKOK: -- Two armed men robbed Bangkok Bank's Suvarnabhumi Airport Sunday morning and made off with Bt2 million.

Initial report showed that they entered the bank which is situated near shuttle bus terminal at the airport at about 9.30am.

They forced at gunpoint the bank cashiers to hand over them the money, altogether Bt2 million in cash.

They then handcuffed the bank staffs, removed a tape from the security camera at the bank and then ran away.

Police reported that one of them wore a hood while another man wore black jacket and no hood.

Police found difficulties in locating them because there are many road links around the airport.

Once again, a news report short on useful details. Was it on the international departures level (4) or arrivals level (2)? Or was it at the domestic departures section? Was it sunday moring @ 01:00 hrs or at 11:00 hrs? Doesn't speak to the level of security at the airport does it? Ok, sure, these things are fast, but you can't wave guns around in public without someone seeing it. Something just isn't right about this robbery and as observed earlier, it's got to be an inside job

BANK HEIST

Duo steal millions

Staff gagged and bound after being forced to open safe

BANGKOK: -- A manhunt is on for two robbers who made off with more than Bt3 million from a Bangkok Bank branch at Suvarnabhumi Airport yesterday.

One teller was injured and the robbers gagged and bound the bank's nine staff before making off with the cash. They fled on a motorcycle, taking the bank's security-camera recording cassette with them.

The robbers were in the bank for 40 minutes.

Staff told police that the robbers brandished a pistol and a knife. They had followed one employee into the bank as she arrived at work at 7.30am.

They forced her to use her key to open one of the bank safe's locks by pistol-whipping her. They waited for a second staff member to arrive with the second key.

One of the staff said the robbers wrapped their fingers with tape to avoid leaving prints. Another said the men kicked the bank cleaner before binding and gagging her.

Police say the motorcycle registration number is Lor Ling - Sor Ruesee - Thor Thong 990, of an unknown province.

One robber is said to have a crew-cut.

Police suspect they are airport workers as they appeared familiar with the airport's internal road network. They knew the times the bank staff would arrive and that they would have to wait for the second security key.

The tellers have been given police protection. No police sketches of the two robbers were available late last night.

In January, a Burmese man managed to board a flight after jumping over the airport's security fence. He had eluded security and was apprehended only when cabin crew noticed his dirty, bare feet.

Suvarnbhumi Airport beefs up security following bank robbery

The Director of the Suvarnabhumi Airport has ordered increased security around the area following a robbery that took place yesterday.

Early yesterday 7 employees of the Bangkok Bank reported being held at gun point and hand cuffed as two assailants made off with over 2 million baht from the bank. Police have begun investigations and the bank branch remained closed throughout the day.

The director of the airport stated that the incident should not affect public confidence in the airports operations. :D :D*no reason to assume that an armed bank robbery in broad daylight would affect public confidence, is there?*

This seems surprisingly well planned for a Thailand bank heist. Usually you have a blundering pair of somchais who get away with the money only to get ratted out by a farmer who saw them or something. The motorcycle registration might be their downfall unless they stole the bike or hot swapped plates. That's probably the case since they took so much effort in not leaving prints and everything else.

Guys like this probably still won't get away though they will tell their g/f or cousin and then that'll be the end of it.

Update:

Cops nab trio after airport heist

LOPBURI: -- Two men were arrested yesterday in Lop Buri province, just one day after their heist at a Bangkok Bank branch at Suvarnbhumi Airport.

A third accomplice, not previously known to have existed, was later arrested at his home in Samut Sakhon province. Only Bt654,000 of the Bt3.3 million loot has been retrieved.

A 200-strong team of police officers and forest rangers swept through the Chai Badal district in Lop Buri, where one of the robbers was said to have lived.

Manhunt

Police started the manhunt at 10am yesterday, and nabbed Sirisak Yordjaroen and Suphotcha Phoothookmork at about 3.30pm.

Police recovered Bt104,000 of the loot after it was dug up by Sirisak's father-in-law. The suspect had buried the money for his wife and child.

In Samut Sakhon, police raided the home of Somkhuan Sriwara and found Bt550,000 hidden in a ceiling. Somkhuan said he had worked as a getaway driver for the other two.

The suspects have not revealed the location of the rest of the cash.

Sirisak and Suphotcha previously worked as security guards at the Bangkok Bank branch, while Somkhuan was a clerk at the airport.

Police said they had identified Sirisak from footage captured by security cameras outside the bank.

No footage from the cameras inside the bank was available because the robbers took the cassette with them.

That should probably read "...has been officially retrieved." :D

(then again, the rest may be squirreled away, to be used as a "Get out of Jail" fund at a later date)

It's like that scene in American Gangster. You have the "special" branch of the Thai police marching in to take their cut from the evidence locker because well, you know..they're special.
