Configure Outlook Express to use your GMAil account by following these instructions. If you're using the web version of GMail (via a web browser) and you're not using Outlook Express or another mail client (Thunderbird, Eudora, Pegasus, etc..) then it just will not work.

It will work for web based gmail access, you just need to use the gmail notifier app and specify which browser to use or use the "Better Gmail" extension for firefox

To telaksslave: Did either of Veazer's remedies work for you? Please let us know. Thanks!

Ooops, i didn't fully read his post. I thought he just wanted mailto:: links to open gmail. I thinks the first solution might work (gmail notifier) because it happens outside the browser, however the firefox plugin will not help him.
