June 29, 200817 yr I recently quit my job. They informed me that my work permit will be canceled soon and I need to leave the country. I already left and came back with a 30 day stamp, which expires July 19th. I have been hired by another company here and will need to go get a non-immigrant B. I am thinking to go to Penang. A couple questions. 1. Since when I return from penang I will be getting a work permit, does it really matter if I get a single or multiple entry? (My understanding is that the visa is used to get the permit. So once I have the work permit, can I stay as long as I keep my job, or will I have to leave after 90 days since the visa will expire?) 2. Has anyone done the Thaivisa Penang Visa Run? If so, any comments? Thanks!
June 29, 200817 yr You must leave after 90 days unless you are able to extend your stay at Immigration. In any case you will not obtain a multi entry in the area without a work permit having been issued so when in process, making application with work permit application receipt, a single entry is normal.
June 30, 200817 yr Author So if I get a single entry non-immigrant B, come back to Thailand and get work permit, then in 3 months I will have to leave again in order to get another single entry non-immigrant B?
June 30, 200817 yr No, when you have the WP you can ask for an extention of stay to 1 year at your local immigration office and every year after that.
June 30, 200817 yr If the company which is hiring you does not meet certain requirements, you shall not apply for the annual extension. With the WP in your hands you'd very likely obtain a Non Immigrant B multiple entries either in KL or Singapore.
June 30, 200817 yr If the company which is hiring you does not meet certain requirements, you shall not apply for the annual extension. With the WP in your hands you'd very likely obtain a Non Immigrant B multiple entries either in KL or Singapore. Singapore do not currrently issue one year multiple entry non immigrant B visas - not even to Singapore residents. Also you need a lot of paperwork in addition to your Work Permit to get that class of visa in KL.
July 1, 200817 yr Can somebody please advice me on whether or not I am likely to get a multi-entry Non-B in Penang without a work permit? To cut a long one short, despite currently having a single entry Non-B (Expires 16th this month), I do not have a work permit yet due to some individual faffing about. I won't qualify for an extension of stay and so for obvious reasons I would much rather have a multi-entry rather than a single. My current Non-B is my first one, and previous visa history is mostly Non-O as I am married to a Thai.
July 1, 200817 yr I suspect close to nil. But wonder why you want the B visa if you are married to a Thai? You can obtain work permit/work on O visa.
July 1, 200817 yr Thanks, I suspected as such. So I am able to apply for a WP on a NON-O?, great news if this is the case. Would this be affected by my employer not meeting criteria for the extension of stay? Thanks in advance.
July 1, 200817 yr Yes you can apply/obtain on non immigrant O visa and the criteria may be a little less stringent. Not sure how it is under new work permit rules but previously this was the case. Currently believe only the education visa/extension does not allow work permit issue - even retirement can now apply I believe.
July 1, 200817 yr Another question sorry. So I can get a WP from a NON-O visa, which is great. Now when I go to immigration with visa and WP ect. to ask for an extension of stay. Will I need to show that my employer meets the 4-1 Thai staff ratio criteria? The minimum combine income is not an issue as it will exceed 40k/month.
July 1, 200817 yr There are new work permit regulations that seem to require an income by your nationality just to obtain the permit so if not in exempted category (such as teachers/journalists) it may require the income just to get the work permit now (for new applicants). But in answer to specific question the family extension should require only acceptable proof of 40k income per below 5. According to the Criterion No. 6,the applicant is required to attach the certificate of having the savings in the bank account of any Bank in Thailand and copy of the bank account, or evidences of personal income of either party or both that shows the total income of both parties not less than 40,000 Baht per month, such as the evidence of the personal income tax filing and the receipt, evidence of being a pensioner, credentials of receiving the interest of the saving money, or the evidences of having other income from other related organizations.
