Saw the storm grabbed my camera and got lucky---- yes it happens sometimes

Got one try with the balloon My camera takes a long time to store RAW so by

the time the camera was ready the balloon was gone Took a few more shots of the storm

which were perfectly ok but i feel the dot of red makes all the difference

comments please

Maybe the picture could be improved if the balloon was in a different position. I don't think the balloon does anything to the picture in its original position.

I photoshopped it and moved the balloon higher and to center.

I couldn't find any info in the META DATA. What camera are you using - shame it took a long time to store the picture because it was Raw. I guess if this was normal, the RAW format would not be gaining in popularity.

The colors in the picture are great and really feels like a storm coming. Looking back at the picture again I noticed the tilt of the buildings. I know somewhere in photoshop this too can be corrected, perhaps some one else could suggest a way to correct this tilt.

Thanks for submitting an enjoyable photo.

Jukapot thankyou for your reply i think by moving the balloon you make the

picture more successful BUT in a much more obvious way

the obvious has never really appealed to me i like that the balloon

comes into the consciousness later and not instantly

The distortion of the buildings is caused by the lense that happened

to be on in the short time frame i had to react [19mm] but again i feel

the distortion adds to the claustraphobic menace of the storm it is very much

a creative choice not to use "lens correction"

again thankyou for showing me the other view of my image

The dangerous angle of the buildings worried me too, so

I tweaked the verticals with SilkyPix.

Good shot of the storm and the move of the balloon does enhance it.

What is the camera that has such a slow write rate on RAW?

this is all very hypothetical as the balloon did not follow that trajectory

but went downwards to the left so this is like a photgraphic "pin the tail on the donkey"

but for the sake of friendly argument which is what this forum is all about

by moving the balloon to that position, which i totally understand, the photograph

becomes " Balloon" [in a storm] wheras the photograph i am interested in is

"Storm" [with a balloon] i do not want the balloon to be the focal point of

the photograph I hope that makes sense

As to the distortion it was interesting to see the buildings corrected for which

i thankyou i appreciate you probably did it quickly but by correcting the angles

you have lost the most dramatic cloud formation in the top left hand corner

I am of the opinion that lense distortion is part of the language of photography

Photographs are not about how the eye/brain perceives things but how the

camera sees things I could go on about this a lot more but maybe thats enough

for now Thankyou for your comments i hope some other people feel stimulated enough to have their say

PS i wanted a camera that shot in RAW that i could put in my pocket

i came up with Ricoh GX100 a great little camera but the sacrifice i make for carrying it in my pocket

is slow storage speed
