elkangorito
Thailand is the only country in the world to have "Thai electricity". If you don't believe me, next time you see a Thai electrician, ask him about "earthing". He may say something like, "Thai electricity different...not need earthing." As for the "Land of Smiles", Thailand is the only country in the world to announce that they are "The Land of Smiles" but when you have your photograph taken for official reasons (eg school), you are not permitted to smile. Why? "You must be serious." In the next breath, you are told that you are being too serious. Edited July 17, 2008 by elkangorito

Tinkelbell
quoted............"M.R. Kukrit Pramoj. In 1975, he became the 13th Prime Minister of Thailand." ................................................................................ ......................... M.L. Kukrit Pramoj was once teaching at Thammasart at the Faculty of Laws (ka-na-ni-ti-sart). He was very popular among young and good lookings students. It was a well known fact. I would say he was the very first important and afluent public figure to come out of the closet. His entourage comprised a dozen of these good looks young men. Jeddah Jo
The present King of Thailand, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) possesses ten white elephants with another six, not yet appointed royal elephants. The first white elephant appointed during His Majesty's reign is "Phra Sawet Adulyadej Phanon."
kiakaha
The current Thai King was born in the U.S. so that gives him defacto U.S. citizenship but I think he/they renounced it a long time ago. The King also has 1 prosthetic eye, made from glass.
kiakaha
Complete rubbish, you simply can't say it properly. Ok congradulations you have went one step to far. Maybe I can't pronounce it properly but my Thai wife darn sure can and still they didn't know it. Thailand is not made up of only well educated people here is Issan the average person gets a 6th grade education. That doesn't leave a whole lot of room for history lessons. Not saying they are not intelligent they simply have not been given the information. Now first time through guy saying I was not being truthful was at least respectful. So I guess you know what you can do with rubbish hot shot. So have your say you won't here from me about it I have said what I needed to say and I gave up along time ago trying to communicate with idiots. To add some pure objective facts to the cat fight In Thai it is written สยาม (sa yaam). And pronounced as such. So it is understandable how a non reader of thai script could easily mispronounce the SIAM transliteration that is in popular use. To use English word phonetic as an example mispronunciation guide.... Sigh Am, Sigh Um, See Am, See Um, etc.... all wrong.
Cuban
According to a very reliable source that bought be a drink or three last night, the true origin of the phrase “Dar-kling” come from the recent past when a group of Soi 6's finest staff were having a quite break on one February evening shortly after the great St Valentines Day rush of 2540 and were watching their favorite telephone show Star Trek Voyager, for it was that very episode filmed on stardate 50693.2 where the word Darkling was used as the show's title. As as so many farang look like the show's cast in that episode they celibrate the event, by repeating the word many times every evening.

Yes, probably not something some polite Bangkokian would say. The So Sethaputra New Model dictionary cites it as "n. a plug; tissue at the end of the anus, which becomes piles if swollen, the rectum. CaptHaddock
King Ramkhamhaeng, who ruled at the end of the thirteenth century, created the first Thai alphabet. Sorry, he did not. Thai is made out of letters from various languages. King Ramkhamhaeng codified the Thai alphabet. Or at least he took credit for it in the manner of kings everywhere.
