Auction Houses: Does Thailand Have Them?

Featured Replies

I was wondering if Thailand has auction houses similar to other countries? Places were for auction a wide variety of goods such as surplus stock, unclaimed goods, personal items etc. These places are common elsewhere, but I've never seen any in Thailand. Does anyone have further info?

For general goods, no, but I've seen and regularly attend antiques auctions at River City. Usually a decent turnout with quite a variety of pieces.

There are a couple of outfits that do vehicles, but haven't attended any of those.

I went hunting for the same thing in Chiang Mai a while back (was looking for 2nd hand office furniture). No luck. The closest thing I found was a government dept that does periodic auctions of stuff that has been repossessed for non-payment of debts (I guess debts to the government). It is in a building very close to the Ping Payom entrance to the air force base here (Wing 41).

They couldn't say when the next auction would be held - depends of when they get enough stuff in the warehouse. Got the impression that they are not really set up for individuals to come along - perhaps a few cosy relationships happening (?)

Believe there was big auction event this past weekend at Muang Thong Thani. From what my Thai GF told me it was a Customs and Excise event and was pretty heavily advertised on Thai tv and in Thai newspapers. I didn't see anything about it in English - even the mention on the IMPACT website is in Thai.
