Hi all,

not sure I'm posting this on the right forum site but if not was hoping somebody could point me in the right direction?

My cousin is a Jordanian citizen has been refused a family visit visa and I was wondering if we can simply apply again rather than going down the appeal route? The reasons for refusal were that he didn't stipulate where in the UK he would like to visit (he just put that he wanted to stay with his family in their home and visit the tourist attractions in London) and that he didn't have sufficient funds in his bank account.

My parents and myself said that we would sponsor his stay and we provided pay slips and bank statements. Presumably these are fine as my dad owns his own business, my mum works for the NHS and I'm a trainee solicitor (not in immigration law obviously!) so financially we are ok. We would be paying for everything for my cousin if he came to visit, as he has just spent the last 6 months in Dubai visiting his brother and has spent all his savings.

We wanted to submit a new application addressing the above points rather than appeal, as my cousin has been given 1 year leave from his job and only has 6 months of this left, therefore if we appeal and he is given a visa in a year's time it will be too late. Also, he said in his application that he would like to spend 6 months in the UK. He put this at that was the minimum time you could tick on the form, but in actual fact he probably won't stay here for that long, especially if he doesn't like it here. Should he change this on the new application or address it on the appeal form?

If it would help, my father can put money into his bank account for him to spend here, we just didn't think that would be necessary as we stated we would sponsor his stay and take care of all of his needs. Many members of our family from Jordan have visited us in the past (and all gone back) and we've never encountered problems with visa applications before, has the system tightened up recently? He just wants to come over to see where we live and do the usual tourist things, any help would be very much apprecaite.

Thanks, Shamma

Another application may be submitted without having to go to appeal, but it should address any of the reasons for refusal, pretty much as you've set out here. I would advise against loading your cousin's bank account as that this has occurred will be apparent to the visa officer. Instead, reinforce with a covering letter the evidence of support from the family and, if possible, provide evidence that other family members who have visited have returned to their home countries.

Scouse.
