I have just started to print out my photos onto a printer. I have quite a few stored on my PC and have selected the ones I would like a hard copy of.

They look really good. The trouble is when I cut off the spare paper around them with scissors, I don't seem to be able to cut them out straight. The edges are always slightly jagged.

Should I buy a guillotine or maybe use a knife - any thoughts would be appreciated.

Try a ruler and one of those small hobby knifes, you can break of a small part of the blade when blunt, and the next sharp part is up for the next cutting job. Push the ruler down tight so the pic will not move. Use a hard and smooth piece of wood to do the cutting on, you can use the kitchentable, but .....

I agree. That is exactly how I do it and it works perfectly. I use a thin metal ruler and a 'cutter' (what the Thais call it) and a few sheets of paper to prevent cutting into the table top. I do my own visa photos and this technique works well.

....or use a simple image editor like "MSPaint.exe" found on most PCs to remove the unwanted edges and frame your subject - wastes less paper and ink, bigger pictures etc etc.

If using a blade and straight edge, buy a steel rule, always cut away from your fingers. Glass topped tables are ideal for the purpose.

Thanks very much for all the helpful ideas.

I will try the knife method first and if I lose more than 1 finger I shall buy a cutter :o

I will try Paint for the borders etc... I dont usually use borders, but I am about to take a passport photo, and so they are needed.

My passport photos are without borders.

Which country requires them?
