Thailand To Adjust All Regional Time 30 Minutes Forward Starting 23 August

I read that this was under consideration but the powers that be have decided that Thailand will remain status quo. I believe it was in The Nation earlier this week.

Wrong. Bangkok Jakarta & KL are all the same time zone.

Lee Kwan Yew decided he wanted to be the same as Hong Kong. And as he was the supreme ruler he could. Singapore is the odd man out.

Really.

BTW what does <deleted> stand for?

Shut the f*** up

There has actually been talk more than once over the years regarding Thailand possibly changing to the same time zone as Malaysia and Singapore (UTC+8) but this idea always seems to die on the vine.

This is factually incorrect. Singapore is in the same time-zone as Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, The Philipines and Taiwan. For some reason Thailand prefers to be in-synch with Indonesia.

I have heard Thais saying Singapore is the odd one out too. Can't see any argument to back it up.

Singapore and Malaysia are both in the "wrong" time zones. Check the two links I posted earlier.

A bit off topic but I always tell my friends that we meet at "Farang Time" not the usual 30 minutes or so late that Thai people seem to think is the right time to turn up :o

Maybe this 30 minute idea would get them to the restaurant or club on time???

Spoof stories and wind-ups belong in the forum "Farang Pub - fun, entertainment and Expat life", not in "General topics". Moving it to the pub now.

You really mean "now"? Or will you give us another 30 mins? In my limited experience of life in Isaan it wouldn't make any difference if the clock was changed by one hour or more except that some of us might miss our favourite Thai soap on TV, and that could herald of the world!
