So, What Would You Do To Improve Pattaya?

Build a huge dome over the whole place. Don't let nobody out, only in. And if you go in you can't come back out to screw up the rest of LOS that we all enjoy living in. :o

Perhaps? Dunno mate owns a gogo there and on occasions when I stopped by for one of the cabaret shows, always seem be same people there. Course could be pure luck?

I don't doubt you. We have three gay districts in town. It seems like enough, but not too much. Sunee qualifies as slumming. People like to slum in the west and they like to slum it up here.

Please explain the term 'slumming' as i am not familiar with it.

In my experience tourists go to Pattaya for the birds, boys and beer because other than that is does not have much to offer. The beach is crap the sea is polluted and the crime rate seems to have soared, according to the posts on this forum. I think that any improvements that should be made must relate to the aforementioned.

I am talking about tourists not residents and i know thet they are there probably for a variety of reasons.

Slumming just means going out for a night of nightlife entertainment in a poor, seedy district. Now I realize many people see the entire of Jomtien and Pattaya that way, but in reality, there are nicer and slummier areas, for sure. Enjoy!

Thanks for the explanation. I don't see Pattaya that way at all and in fact i enjoy going there for the weekend on occasions. I think that it is ok so long as you take the place for what it is and don't be too judgemental.

The only thing that worries me nowadays is the increasing crime in the area, which also puts the wife off going there.

The last time we visited we saw in the first 2 hours:-

A drunken policeman walking around the open bar in full uniform carrying a bottle of whiskey and generally being obnoxious.

Two Thais beating the hel_l out of each other in the bar.

The last thing was at a Karaoke bar in Jomtien where the drunken chef came out of the kitchen and threw a butchers knife at the bands guitarist. Narrowly missing his head.

Take it or leave it we chose to leave.

Being from the US, I still feel safer here than in most US big cities. You have to be street smart. For example, its a bad idea to walk on Jomtien beach at night or stumble around alleys after midnight in a drunken state. I really do think the crime is overstated. Most of it against farangs is caused by inviting the wrong people into our rooms or homes. That problem isn't easy to crack.

Sorry that made me laugh, priceless!

I am from a pretty rough area in the North of England so i don't get too phased by what i see, but the wife does. I have stayed in bangkok now for around 8 years and have wandered the streets late at night and early morning when returning home from a night out. During this time i have never felt threatened and never had any conflicts with anyone, so consequently i feel much safer here than i do in the UK.

I would under no circumstances ever invite anyone to my home other than very close friends and family.

Only in pattaya!

According to the wife the guitarist had taken the chefs guitar without asking him so he blew a fuse. A good reason to try to kill someone eh?

The undisputed way to improve Pattaya is remove every grumpy farang out there who picks apart this place like so many discarded chicken carcasses. Although Pattaya has its problems - we need to accept these issues as mere idiosyncrasies. The fact is, we are all guests here, and those who spend more time complaining about potholes and suit vendors than enjoying themselves should consider going back from where they came, where everything is picture-perfect. It will make them happy, and it will please those here who enjoy Pattaya for what it is. This should cull the farang population by 75%.

Sólo mis dos centavos.

Hi Guys,

I suggest that any one reading the above posting should take a look at his posting dated 15th of August to find out what he really thinks of Thai Society!

It aint much for sure!

If any culling needs to be done in Pattaya the thai authorities will place him first on the list after reading his nasty comments

about them. :o

As a retired Police Captain from the United States the first thing I would do fire everyone at the top of the Police Ranks. I would then cull the remaining officers kicking off the force anyone who has shown contempt for the law by demanding bribes, placing drugs on innocent people and anyone involved in corruption from the street officer to secretary. I realize that probably wouldn't leave many men left but I'm sure there are plenty of good people with a good moral foundation who would be willing to take up the mantle.

Probably you salary in the US was much higher than the monthly salary of an ordinary Police officer here.

The entire system should be changed, but I assume it would takes decades.

Why are you comparing what I made with my counterpart here? Would you also want to pay the people here who collect trash on the back of a truck the same as they are paid in the United States?
Hmmm. Read it before its deleted ...
Jingthing, I like you. I have such bad (and seriously overwhelming) evidence of seriously serious wrong doing by the local supposed police, I am having to give up my job and leave Thailand before I give it to the press, as I WILL get get killed by them if I am still here. Stand by and watch lots of Pattaya tourist police, the Chief of Pattaya Police and probably the mayor too, all get hit with criminal charges in the next couple of months for deliberately fabricating charges against foreigners they knew 100% were innocent. This place is fuc_king dirty, and its not the foreigners who make it so, its the locals, most especially the police who are supposed to be there to "Protect and serve" Must be their own interests only I guess.. You cannot trust any Thai in pattaya. 90% of them are out to take you for everything you have.

Are you insane man? Maybe too much chang get some sleep.
I feel a thread closed coming on.
have you read the forum rules saudi.

Cheers, Rick
freedom of speech and the right to talk truth should not be blocked rick. The police corruption and subsequent utter stupidity in pattaya are the biggest problem. Everyone who lives here knows it, so why pretend it isn't?

We all know the problems Saudi but whatever you or anyone does will not change things here in Thailand. It is up to the Thais to cahnge it.

I had a professor in San Francisco who said the earthquake of 1906 was the best thing that ever happened to San Francisco...Pattaya is an eyesore...Any chance of a great earthquake here?

Excuse me...what is it you like about Pattaya and why did you move here?

I have never seen you post a positive word about the place...only negative rants...and now you want to destroy the whole town (I think you odds for a tsunami would be better than an earthquake)!

Is it you boyfriend...is that why you stick it out it a place you don't seem to like? As you appear to be from SFO/California, maybe you could get him a fiancée visa and return to San Francisco and get married (now that gay marriage is legal in California {at least for now}). Would that make you a happier camper?

Are you outing the Jing, TV's beacon of sunshine and warmth, :o

Wow. I come home from a night on the piss, and I get extra entertainment reading this thread. We need more people like Saudi and Weho who are not afraid to speak their minds, no matter how contoversial!

Note: I'm not condoning this at all, it's just funny to watch what happens when the entire mod staff seems to be down on Soi 7.... :o

To improve Pattaya would include getting rid some of the people that stay here long time. So make it more stringent in Thai law say for instance get a 1 year(retirement) visa. Measures could include increasing the sum in the bank to a million baht or more, plus all applicants to provide a certificate of clear record(no criminal convictions) from their home country and so on.

I think you should put your Chang down, wipe the sweat out of your eyes and read the post again.

Current "retirement visas" are for one year. No more, no less. You then extend them for a year. The poster 'Turnkey' was suggesting making it harder to get them, not change the duration.

Now that you understand that, go have another drink.
