Hi All

How much is the recent political troubles in Bangkok affecting the area?

We are coming over for a Holiday and will be spending a few nights in BKK. :D (Man im looking forward to coming to Thailand, read so much good stuff about it:) )

As usual the media in Australia wont let truth get in the way of sensationalising a story.... So it could all be a storm in a teacup, rather then the whole huge violent over the top sounding crap they are trying to sell it as :o

So far it is been non violent and only a few scratches which seem to have been accidental rather than intended (on all sides). But there is a national rail strike starting today and that could spread to other areas so there may be inconvenience. Do not believe there is danger if you avoid demonstration areas at this time. Most people are just getting on with there lives.

What about public transport and government offices etc? I and my fiancee are hoping to visit Bangkok next week and get married while we are there. Will this be unaffected?

Next week is next week. No one can answer that for you...

Personally? If I'd planned a wedding in Thailand, I'd come regardless.

Question: Do you absolutely need to get to government offices while here? Which one(s)? As far as transport goes, it'll all depend on where you want to get to. I was thinking about going to a restaurant near Democracy Monument tonight but I'll postpone until a later time.

Well, here's a quote on marriage procedures:

"For foreigners to get married in Thailand, they must first obtain clearance from their respective embassies. With the clearance, a foreigner can obtain an affidavit which states the name of the foreigner as well as personal details such as citizenship and legal freedom to marry. This affidavit will have to be translated into Thai and legalized pursuant to Thai law. When all the documents are in place, the administrative marriage can then be performed at the Thai district offices known as ‘amphur’ or ‘khet’."

I agree with you and think we'll come anyway. We'll enjoy the trip even if some of these places are closed and we don't get married there after all.

I'm not up on anything to do with getting married in Thailand so hopefully someone will jump in here...

But seems to me you could get your paperwork together to get married out of Bangkok (?) at any district office?

There's always Changmai, and the wine country (north-east of BK) is a beautiful place to go... but I read Phuket (?) has been closed down by protesters. (But that's this week. Nothing to do with next week).

Good luck. And enjoy your adventure :o

Need to have all paperwork (translated into Thai) approved by Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Then once this is done can get married at any District Office anywhere in Thailand.

Haven't heard of any government officed closed so I doubt it will be a problem for vikawok to get married while here.
