Ha ha!!! Gotcha!!! :o
Depends on how "big" Big Gary is, a small engine on full power all the time would be equally eco-unfriendly.

Many V8 engines now days are just as "eco-friendly' as some 4 cylinder cars. Just look at all that black smoke pouring out of most diesel vehicles here in Thailand (eco-unfriendly). All I want to know is, does anyone know where I can buy a second hand V8 engine and not a lesson about the envioroment.

Just my way of replying to toybits rather pointed question, you may have wanted it for a "coffee table" base in which case it would be ultra eco-friendly. But going back to your origional topic i would try engine swap shops the type that put Toyota 1jz/2jz in everything they may have what your looking for or know a good source Thailand/Japan etc. Auto Mobil Racing Cars magazine is one they advertise in so a half hour browse in Se-ed book shop might be benificial.

Hey - get off this guy's back! He is asking a straightforward question, not inviting an environmental discussion. If you think one stonking big V8 pollutes more than the badly maintained diesel engines of the red seelors of Chiang Mai you need to go back to school.

And the moment I see some loud self-proclaimed vegetarian who does NOT smoke and/or eat high cholesterol fried stuff I'll buy him a beer! Got the deliberate wit there? Good.

My constructive answer, as opposed to all this judgemental nonsense, is that if you, Mr OP, happen to be anywhere near Chiang Mai, go straight to the most professional used car spares warehouse, north of the Superhighway on the 'old' Borsang/Sankampaeng Road. Cross the S-highway with the rail station behind you. After about 1km you will pass a closed down Shell (yellow and red) station on your left. Now look out for a place on the right with lots of odd fork lift trucks (and even more odd electric things) outside. Turn right into the soi and go into the place, now on your right.

Buy an engine there (they will run it for you, foc) and then walk another 50m down the same soi and talk (in Thai) to Khun Daychar, also on the right, at the Fuchs sign. (Mods: Fuchs is a high quality German motor oil). He will tune it and install it at the best possible price in Thailand. He is especially brilliant with V8s, twin carbs and twin cams but won't touch anything so modern as electronic fuel injection or computer controlled anything. A fine man, adhering to fine old principles. And fine old prices!!

Thanks Mate. That is the answer I was after. I will check that place out on my next visit to Chiangmai. Thats the place I am after and also the guy to do my conversion from my gutless diesel to a mean sounding V8.

big Gary what car or pickup are planning for v8 engine mike

Thank You everyone for your input. I have engine etc and had it fitted. I bought a Landrover Discovery with a 4 cyl petrol engine in it and it was so underpowered. I have fitted a Toyota Lexus V8 4ltr engine with a 5 speed auto gearbox. I also had to change the diff. I fitted a Toyota Landcruiser diff so as the gearing was ok. So up top is Landrover and all the running gear is Toyota. Bit of a mongrel but it really moves(and the fuel guage as well!!)

My next project will be building a dragster/funny car with a Lexus V8 also. I have an old Nissan sedan which I will convert over time. Once again thanks.

Coming Saturday: V8-Day at Gary's! 555!

Yes Gary, it would be cruel not to show us some pictures after getting us going ...

If you don't, we might all come to Hong Or to look and listen. Put some beers in the ice please!
