can someone please remind me where the official taxi stand is upon international arrival? is it straight out of arrivals / customs and on the same floor? thanks.

Entry 3. Same as the designated meeting place. Official taxi stand right outside.

Of course it could be more savvy to Departures. You will get a taxi driver from the city most likely. And they're going back into Bangers anyways. I am sure they would rather have a fare on the drive back.

Don't know if it is kosher with AOT, but who cares about them...

There must be more threads about getting a goddamn taxi to Bangkok from the airport on this forum than about any other subject.

<deleted>, how hard does it have to be?

Walk out of airport. Look for sign saying public taxi. It ain't f*****g rocket science, people

Tend to agree but people hear about the uber scams and read Lonely Planet about people getting kidnapped and murdered and they don't want to have a problem. Personally, I think most of these mega scam rumours are put about by the likes of AOT to get newbies to pay way OTT for a drive into the city.

That said, I've taken taxis in many many cities and whilst they may drive the long way around if you don't know most just want to get the job finished and get the next fare.

It isn't rocket science or I'd have been kidnapped and murdered long ago :o

You know what pisses me off torrenova? The difference between getting ripped off and not getting ripped off is 6 pounds sterling compared to 5 pounds. And how much sleep is lost over this?

People .. . . wise up, or relax. It's simple.

Half of the trouble is the exit out to the taxi stand is heavily covered with private car services pimping themselves out as "taxis". It's as bad as walking down the soi in front of the many massage parlors hearing "Handsome man, Handsome man!"

The smart choice is the Airport Express bus service on the bottom floor near entry 8. 150 baht, plenty of space for your luggage, and comfortable. A bit between limo service and the public buses.

What you don't want to see is that the touts are anything but TAXIS.

At least if you manage to fight your way to one the two official taxi stands you get a regulated, real, not to old cab :o

Same with people renting cars from rental companies who are NOT rental companies, You have an accident, you're in deep merde (French for ***t)

fight your way, my arse.

it's called walking and saying no thank you.

how hard does it have to be, for crissakes?

I agree with you (yes it does happen). Everytime I exit customs area the taxi touts are there asking me where I am going.... to which I reply... home, thanks bye ... while not breaking my stride.

I think some people find it a bit intimidating having to walk through this mob, but they are generally non threatening. I once accidentally ran my case over the foot of one of them and he apologised to me...

It's still a logistic nightmare for some. I wonder who lets those people travel alone and without a carer?

My God, getting a taxi from a 45 mil passengers per year airport to a 10 million people city. What an adventure!

You know, I think it's about the time that a good director is called to the task to make a thriller movie about the misteries and excitement one goes through when venturing into such a complicated and unusual A to B exercise.

:o I agree.

I work in Crete, Greece. I manage to get to Thailand maybe 2 times a year for a 2 or 3 week visit at best. Because of my work schedule I usually leave Crete Monday morning. I usually work a 12 hour night shift on Sunday night, get off at 7 AM. Then go to airport, 8.30 flight to Athens. Thai International direct flight to BKK at 16:30. About 10 hours on the plane. Arrive BKK about 6:00 in morning,Tuesday. Takes 30 to 45 minutes going through immigration/customs/money excange. Then I'm at taxi desk. After over 24 hours with litle sleep, hot an sweaty, tired and feeling like h*ll from the time on the plane, then I'm in no mood to quibble about 500 or 600 Baht extra for a air-conditioned taxi that I can relax in. Yes, I pay the driver the toll for the expessway and so on.

I would rather pay the extra then go through the hassle of argueing about the taxi fare. Thailand is my holiday, and I save for it all the rest of the year I work. So the lowest fare on a taxi from the airport is the least of my worries at the time.

Just my opinion.

:D
