Hello friendly and helpful Phuketians!

I'm planning a trip to Phuket mid February and am after some advice. I have friends coming to Thailand and they are staying at The Himmaphan on Bangtao Beach. I'd like to stay fairly close to them, but I live and work in Chiang Mai, hence that place is a bit out of my price range...

Can anyone recommend anywhere nice in that area for me and my missus to stay for a few nights? I really don't want to spend over 2,000 Baht night (less would be good!), although if somewhere is really worth it I suppose I could stretch to 3,000 a night.

Are places offering discounts on advance bookings? Tourism is taking a hit in Thailand... I figure there must be some bargaining room...

Any advice greatly appreciated, and I'll happily trade advice about Chiang Mai!

Not exactly on the beach but a nice little place is Blue Garden Bangtao, it's just across the street from the beach. Also, check with Best Western Premiere Bangtao, they are on the beach. Then there is the Amora, it's on the beach and a little rundown so you might get a good rate there. Also Bangtao Lagoon Bungalow Resort might get you a good price.
