Agree. But think what the MK4 will be like

:o:D:D

But at what prize? With my budget, I am much more looking forward to the 50D.

But how do they justify the prices.

• US: $ 2,699

• EU: € 2,499

• UK: £ 2,299

Let's take the dollar price as the base.

Therefore the UK price should be £1467. (Today's rate is £0.5437 = $1)

The Euro price should be €1850 (Today's rate €0.6855 = $1)

So the UK price is 56% higher than the US.

The European price is 35% higher.

The prices are from the DPReview site.

Assuming we're talking about the new 5D MK11 here I would say that the MRP is a lot less than the original MRP on the 5D MK1.

I calculate a baht rate of 86,600 which compares very favourably with the 115,000 thb I paid a year ago, albeit that was with a power grip and two lithium batteries.

Bearing in mind the significant improvements on the new model (sensor cleaning, weather sealed, HD video and DOUBLE the pixel size, etc etc) I think it's a "must have". As has been said by many, this camera will redefine image quality and indeed photography on a whole. Many stock libraries now (Getty, Image Bank, Alamy) INSIST on 50-60MB files WITHOUT upsizing! This camera will do it - my MK1 will not!

A pro friend of mine has sent me a few test shots which he managed to snap off (rights protected so can't attach them) and the resolution, definition, contrast and tone are just so much better. They were straight out of the camera RAW files without any tweaking and WOW!

It's a controversial statement but he suggests the difference is akin to comparing 35mm to medium format!

This guy is currently shooting on a 1DS MK111 and he is convinced the 5D MK11 is better! (and at a third of the price)

Personally I reckon to hang back a bit to see what "glitches" it may or may not have and then, assuming no problems, I'll be beating on the door at FotoFile! :o

Wise move...You've got to give Canon 6 month's minimum.

I've paid over 120,000 Baht for it in Japan with the grip and two batteries, when fotofile sold 5D for 170,000 Baht just for the body (Nov. 2005). I agree 86,600 Baht is a real bargain for a full size sensor with so many new features original 5D didn't have, but I have to say not so much for the picture quality.

Have you seen the sample images yourself? I've checked quite few full size jpeg images I downloaded from here and there. Some of the images have stunning detail, like the portrait of a young girl. But other than that, I like the images from my 5D better than Mk2. Everything in high light area looks fine to me, but the resolution in shadow area is unimpressive even at ISO100 (including that grass area of the glacier photo) and no match to the original 5D IMO and certainly not what I'd expect from a full-size sensor camera. 21 million pixels is simply more than how many pixels I want for a full-size sensor and if Canon wants to endlessly increase the pixels with every update I think they should adopt what Leica did with their newly announced S2, develop a bigger format sensor than 35mm film size with a whole set of new lens line ups to be adopted to larger lens mount and longer flange back. I really have to question their wisdom of cramming 15 million pixels in 1/1.7 size CCD the way they did with PowerShot G10 which was announced with 5D Mk2. Good thing I'm still keeping my 2/3 size CCD 'prosumer' camera with 8 million pixels that I bought almost 5 years ago. It produces much better quality images than 15 million pixels G10 (as far as I can tell from the downloadable sample images).

Personally I'd never even shoot a jpeg let alone evaluate a camera from one. What's the point unless you're sending grannie your holiday snaps!

OK, from a journalistic point of view when deadlines are critical it has a place, but then the average mag/newspaper isn't going to be concerned with pixel peeping.

RAW is the only worthwile evaluation, and the RAW shots I was sent were awesome (as pointed out previously)

BUT, I agree that the "testers" need to supply us with a detailed review before dashing off to the camera shop.

I just hope they hurry up - I'm busting a gut to get it! :D

p.s. I agree that Leica have the better attitude but we've seen their "endeavors" with the M7 and M8 digital eh? :D Maybe the tie up with Phase One will sort them out. But 20,000 euro's body only! :o

Me neither. But I'm sure those downloadable sample images are converted from RAW files. It would be nice though if they have downloadable RAW file samples for us to evaluate.

BTW I'm still waiting for eye-control feature on 5D, perhaps I'll just skip Mk2 but wait for Mk3 or 3D if they won't go godzillion pixels.

and DOUBLE the pixel size, etc etc)

double the pixel count but at smaller pixel size that is...
