Dtac Edge/gprs Post-paid: Advice Wanted

Featured Replies

I have just purchased an unlocked iphone and would like to use the EDGE internet access in Thailand. I was looking at the range of services available and the DTAC 149b / 40 hrs a month looks good. The only drawback is that DTAC want to directly charge my credit card.

I have a dislike of handing over my card to large companies (be it in Australia or Thailand).

Does any have any experience with this service or any other advice on the best way to get EDGE in Thailand?

I use pre paid AIS 189 Baht unlimited per month. On average 220 kbps received, 140 send. Sim purchased in MBK.

+1 to what Farma said. Pre-paid cards can be purchased at any old 7-11 and just keep a balance on your account.

Farma - where are you getting the 189 unlimited from? My local AIS shop has a flyer with several options on it, and the unlimited is 999 Bt per month. How do you get it so cheap?

It's just been renewed on the same deal. It appears we got a package deal when buying a USB modem.

Do you remember what kind of deal it was and what the modem's worth? I'm prepared to pay for a cheapo modem I won't need if I get your kind of discount every month!

I have to use a mobile as a modem cos I'm way out in non-ADSL land and I have no land-line...

It was a Huawei USB E220 modem bought in MBK a month ago. The wife did the deal so I don’t know the full details. It took nearly an hour and many phone calls by the shop staff including them installing the sim into the shops phone to set it up.

We then had a few problems getting it to work with Vista but that was fixed with a firmware upgrade. It cost 6,990 + 189 for 1 months prepaid. The original price quoted by the shop was 9,990.
