rexall Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Thu 30 Oct 08, 7:33 am Good Morning All, I am in Khon Kaen, and I may have to take a trip to Bangers (Shudder!) at the end of November, which will be approximately one month in advance of the deadline for my retirement extension renewal. However, it might make sense to get the renewal out of the way while I am in Bangkok. Does anyone know how early (that is how much in advance of of the actual expiry date) you are permitted to renew a retirement extension? And I suppose that in any case, you get one year from the date you renew, not the expiry date. Is that correct? Thanks for any info, lah! Aloha, Rex

Usually it is 30 days before expiry although some have reported doing it even earlier. Your 12 months will be from when your current stay expires, not when you apply. So you do not lose and time.
ballbreaker Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Some people are reporting that Bangkok immigration is sending you to the closest immigration office to your residence for renewal.

Unless the U.S. Consular visits Isaan in November, I'll have to visit the U.S. Embassy in Bangers to get my letter beforehand anyway. That might make the Imm. Officer more sympathetic. Aloha, Rex

Aloha, Rex The consulate now has an appointment system. It will save some time to have an appointment because you don't have to take a number. Plus showing the appointment slip makes it easier to get through security.Link to website for info: http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/service.html

A friend of mine dropped by the ACS and got his notarized letter of income verification within the past week without an appointment. When I was at ACS twice in July (which in the world of immigrations polices/procedures is a lifetime away...) -- once for a new passport, and then a second time for an income verification -- there was a notice on the wall saying that for those two services one did *not* need to take a number, but rather to just line up at the window. [edited to add, just after I posted the first time:] Dagnabbit, I just noticed the "disclaimer" on the linked web page you provided: "As we transition to the new appointment system, we will continue to accept walk-ins, but will give priority to those who made appointments online." That would explain how my friend got his letter without an appointment.
ubonjoe Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 I think they started in March. In August they had the take a number system. I had an appointment and it did help. I think you already answered the rest in your edit.
PeaceBlondie Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 The ACS unit of the Consulate General in Chiang Mai does not use an appointment system, at least not 2 or 3 weeks ago.
