November 14, 200817 yr Australian sperm gives British reverse colonisation AUSTRALIAN backpackers are populating Britain by stealth, donating sperm to earn money to fund their travels. Fertility clinics in London say that up to one-third of donors are now people from overseas, many of them Australian travellers seeking cash, News Limited reports. A spokesman for one of London's largest clinics, the Bridge Centre, said Aussie backpackers were very enterprising in looking at ways to earn extra money while travelling. And he said clinics needed more men to donate, with a new report showing donor numbers were critically low in Britain. "We need them, we need that winning spirit and we need some more left-handed batsmen so we're hoping that's in the gene set," spokesman Tim Mott said. "If you're on the grand tour and you're spending 12 months in the UK, here's something you can do to make a bit of extra money. "They should have it on the same 'to-do list' as going to the rugby at Twickenham. "It's a good cause and if we get enough Australian donors you could end up colonising the UK instead of the other way round." Link
November 14, 200817 yr I've been trying to colonise Thailand (or large portions of Isaan) for years now apparently !
November 14, 200817 yr Author That's definitely a challenge in Thailand if you happen to be a "hansum man".
November 14, 200817 yr So there aren't as many (British) <deleted> in the UK as we thought then.
November 14, 200817 yr So there aren't as many (British) <deleted> in the UK as we thought then. Maybe they are all in Thailand Dave (Ooops Im there too)
November 14, 200817 yr So there aren't as many (British) <deleted> in the UK as we thought then. Oh I'm sure there are plenty (they just haven't realised they could get paid for it) !
November 19, 200817 yr and on the subject of making donations.....when the wife failed to conceive it was off to a BKK hospital for both of us to be checked out. The room I was brought to included a comfy sofa, bed, wide screen LCD, DVD player, a selection of DVDs from a Pantip Plaza back room and other paraphernalia to achieve the desired result. Unfortunately the nurse declined to stay and demonstrate how it all worked. I wondered if the hospital has a side line in short time rooms. Staff parties must be interesting.
November 23, 200817 yr They should get some New Zealand donours in... babies being born with their own little lambswool bonnets.
November 24, 200817 yr And he said clinics needed more men to donate........and after paying the donor, the staff are instructed to thank the member of public for coming. The problem is the public transport there, so often people miss the tube and end up coming on the bus.
November 25, 200817 yr The problem is the public transport there, so often people miss the tube They don't get paid if they miss the tube ! and end up coming on the bus. Tsk, tsk, tsk. No self control. Maybe that's why the Aussie seed is re-colonizing the UK!
November 25, 200817 yr Author If you read my topic on Boy George you can see how English seed is ending up in all the wrong places.
November 26, 200817 yr Poms plead with Aussies not to go home A leading British newspaper has pleaded with Australians living in the UK not to head home amid concerns a looming recession and plummeting pound are fueling an exodus. London's Times praised the cultural contribution of famous Australians who have made Britain home, including Barry Humphries, Clive James and Germaine Greer as well as the generations of Antipodeans who have flocked to the "old country". But in its editorial on Tuesday, the Rupert Murdoch-owned daily voiced alarm at new figures showing record numbers of Antipodeans are leaving Britain and its economic gloom for better job opportunities back home. "This is largely a vote of no confidence in the old country," The Times said. "As the recession bites, the lure of home, with unemployment at a 33-year low and the (Australian) dollar at an 11-year high against sterling, is very tempting." According to the paper, Australian Immigration Department figures show an average of 2700 Australians are leaving the UK each month, up from 1750 a month in 2005. In the 12 months to June, 13,062 Australians applied for working holiday visas compared with more than 27,000 two years ago. A strong pound, the chance to travel widely and superior job opportunities - particularly in London's financial sector - had enticed thousands of professional Australians to the UK in recent years. But with mass redundancies, a falling currency and the poor economic outlook, there is an exodus from the City of London. "There was always a case that anyone leaving Circular Quay in Sydney for Southampton dock was going the wrong way," said The Times, noting that 400,000 Australians live in Britain. "But now, with more than 20,000 Britons leaving for their country every year, we need all the Australians we can get. Would they please not go back where they came from?" Oliver Harris, of Robert Walters recruitment in London, told the newspaper: "Two or three years ago, it would take (Australians) one week to get a job. Now it will take a month. "A lot will be heading home for Christmas, leaving dark and wet London." AAP (At least they will leave their seed in England to give the poms some hope for the future! )
