Crime Violent Loan Shark Abducts Debtor at Gunpoint, Forces Withdrawal of Funds Before Releasing
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. Police have arrested a notorious loan shark known as “M Em Om Yai” for his alleged role in a violent abduction involving firearms, assault and forced withdrawal of funds from a debtor’s account in Nakhon Pathom province. Mr Sarawut 24, was apprehended on 18 June, at his residence in Tha Kham subdistrict, Sam Phran district, under an arrest warrant issued by the Nakhon Pathom Provincial Court. He faces multiple serious charges, including armed robbery, unlawful detention, assault, illegal possession of firearms and unlawful use of another person’s electronic bank card. The arrest was carried out by officers from the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Division (NED), led by Pol. Col. Apisan Chairat, Chief of Subdivision 5, and Pol. Lt. Col. Jeerasak Nimma, Investigating Officer. The charges stem from an incident in July 2023, when the victim filed a complaint with Nakhon Chai Si Police. The victim alleged that Mr Sarawut and several accomplices forced him into a pickup truck at gunpoint, driving him to an overgrown area in Soi Nang Nuan, Om Yai subdistrict, Sam Phran district. There, the group assaulted him and demanded money related to a car they had consigned to him for sale. The victim explained that he had not yet received payment from the buyer. Under duress, he called a friend to borrow money and managed to obtain 49,000 baht. The gang then took his ATM card and withdrew the cash before releasing him, warning him not to report the incident under threat of death. Following a detailed investigation and the gathering of sufficient evidence, police secured warrants for the arrest of those involved. Upon questioning, Mr Sarawut admitted to participating in the incident but claimed he was misled by a friend into taking part and denied personally brandishing a weapon. He has been handed over to investigators at Nakhon Chai Si Police Station for formal prosecution. Adapted by Asean Now from Khoasod 2025-06-20 -
