Travelling Alone For The First Time

Recommended Posts

Posted

i am travelling to pattaya over xmas for the third time. this time however i am on my own due to my friend cancelling at the last minute, and am just wondering is there plenty to do during the day also are there certain bars that i can go to to meet with fellow brits to go out for a drink.

last time i was there i just lay about on the beach during the day. (i was with a big group so we just chilled for the full holiday.)

we never went into any "clubs" last time so its a bit scary thinking about going into "bars" and "clubs" alone. also i prefer to meet people for a good laugh and a drink

any advice would be appreciated

Dont worry there are plenty of Brit bars.......have a walk down any Soi. Soi Yamoto has quite a few try The Rising Sun or out the back of the Rising Sun is the Sportsman (decent scran). Down walking street try The Blues Factory..............or if you are really pushed i/m normally sat in the Wonderful Bar (top of Soi Yamoto) every other night............. :o . Where did you end up getting booked into ?

IMO you will probablely have more fun  on your  own..Pattaya has got to be one of the friendliest places on earth..You would have to be a bit of wierdo not to make friends in the place...

hmmm.. joe strummer comes to mind...

i am not wierd but my invisible friend is a right headcase :o

This is the holiday season ..it is not a time to be alone..even if you have to pay for it! :o ...Keep your senses alert, have a smile, drink within limits, don't insult any managers, girls or police......remember to buy cigarettes between 11 am and 2 pm....and alcohol between 6 pm and 8 pm (New rules)...you'll be fine. When you do get that Thai christmas bunny to your room, make sure you are on a ground floor, do not have any large plastic bags, rope, knives around the room....Conversation wise just say you are Russian and can not speak english....it will save you a lot of hassles......Merry Christmas!!

PS- If you think that is a girl grabbing your <deleted> on a moonlit beachroad, on your way back of a fun filled night, it is not the holiday spirit but some sexually challenged 6 ft thai wanting to rob you.....Just kick him in the balls! It will remind him of how painful it is to be a man sometimes..... :D

Get a 1000 baht note lick it and stick it to your forehead, you will soon have lots of friends, most of whom will tell you which movie star you look like.

:D i like to think i look like brad pitt without and the muscular body...........

and the millions of $..............

and the blonde hair..............

but apart from that i am a dead ringer :o

i am not worried about meeting people its just i am not sure what to expect in these bars as i have never been in any of them before my experience of thailand so far is limited to eating out going to shows and chilling round the pool.

" highly agressive ladies surrounding the pub."

I know. Don't you just love being treated like a sex god? :D:D

----------------------------

You've BEEN TO PATTY and NOT BEEN in a bar? :o:D Like visiting Paris and missing the Eifel Tower! London without the Bridge! New York without the Statue of Liberty!

The open air beer bars are easy to relax in, and it's a simple matter to just chat with a few of the ladies or if you ask 'em they will leave you alone. But it doesn't hurt to talk and buy a drink or two. Ask them about holidays or special events coming up around town. Thais are always ready for a party, so keep it happy and on your pace.

Stop by Dave's place for a start. Soi Lucky Star off Walking St. Joint called The Blues Factory. Live classic rock n'roll and the prices aren't all that bad. He might even introduce you to some of his "friends", (wink, wink). Couple of his door ladies are HOT :D !

Good luck!

wait a sec! patayaluvgod, how old are you again?

btw, about the lick and stick the B1000 on the forehead is not a good idea as the kings face is on the note, it might (will) show some disrespect to the Thais.

I wouldnt expect you vto actually walk around with 1000 Baht stuck to your forehead, howevr if you did I doubt you would upset many thais in the establishments you are talking about visiting as most of them seem very happy to stick a staple gun through his head when it their birthday.

hi explorer

i am 31.

the reason i started this thread was for advice on whether there was plenty to do in pattaya on your own and just to find out what to expect in the clubs.

i have been down walking street and in the bars on beach road but that is about it. i never went into any clubs as i was with my girlfriend (english) and a group of friends.

as this is the first time i am travelling alone i just wanted ideas on the best places to go.

i am just limited in the questions i can ask as i dont want to break any forum rules.

cheers

Myself and a friend of mine went down to Pattaya the first time togeather and we took different taxi's cuze we stayed at different hotels, him the VC and me the Marriott. The whole time we were there, we never saw one another at all. Then again we never made any attempts to even call each others hotel and get each other's room numbers because we were so pre-occupied with the scores of women, and had no time to go and have a beer togeather. Neither of our hearts were broken and quite frankly we didn't care because of all the fun we were having parading around like 20 year old rock stars.

Sorry to ask the age question, i was wondering coz your postings tend to sound like you're a boy-scout or below the legal drinking age.

Didn't mean to offend you.

So far you all missed the obvious Brit Soi

Soi 8 is packed with brit bars.....Look for the Shark Bar on the left as you head towards 2nd Rd......Steve the owner will be there from the 25th on....big fella but a nice guy. You will find numerous drinking mates from the UK there......

Roo Bar on Walking St gets a few ex pat Poms in and they can arrange UK vs OZ golf games at the drop of a hat.
