IS THIS HIM ? here you go,...........

Thanks for that. It's not him since it's Torquay the article is about (he is in Bideford). But I will forward to him to cheer him up as his oppo just pulled off the job so he is doomed to Christmas AND New Year offshore Indonesia. I reckon the drunken north Devon yobettes better be civil when he gets back on the beat in January.

:o This has just been on Sky News http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20081201/twl-br...ts-3fd0ae9.html

I'm not suprised that our German friends are getting first dibs on flights out of Thailand as our goverment is useless at looking after us when we are at home so what do you expect when your away in a different country.

Good Luck to all stuck out there but I would swap with you any day believe me as you are missing nothing back here in Blighty

Laters

Shakeyd :D

Well, I'm not a Brit, but considering how the Brits are always trashing their govt., it's not surprising they are ignoring you :D

At least you guys seem to have some response. As best as I can tell, the USA embassy and State Department are just saying, to quote the old Mell Brooks movie Blazing Saddles: "Son, you're on your own." So much for our embassy tax dollars. All they have done is post a travel advisory dated November 26, and as of December 1 they say the information is current! Big fffffing help if already here!

gk, sorry to say but in case you missed it, your State Department is in transition at the moment. Once they have settled in and got their world atlas out, located Thai... Tai... Taiwan and worked out how to dial outside, 'International Rescue' will be on the ground shortly... all you need to do is find a way of getting there. Meanwhile, relax and enjoy the show.

Hehe. International Rescue. The Thunderbirds are go! I used to watch that show so much as a kid. Wasn't the creator, Gerry Anderson British?

The US is just bad on these things. I remember when I asked the Bangkok embassy if there was a "meet the ambassador" day or brunch or perhaps a tour of the embassy or something like that. I seem to remember in the old days when visiting the home counselate in a foreign country and chatting a bit with the people from home was something to put on the itinerary. The response I got was: " don't bother us, we are busy, We don't do tours because of security. There are no meetings with the ambassador." Pretty lame.

I am cringing at Hillary Clinton becoming the next Secretary of State. What a horrible political bone Obama is throwing here. The clintons must have an awful lot of dirt on Obama. I just don't see her as being at all credible for that job.

And just exactly what do you expect our government (read: your tax dollars and mine) to do for you?

We are not in danger here. Our government will not and should not airlift us out of here.

I think anyone who could demonstrate a true emergency would get some help from the embassy. But really, what can they do? Thailand is not exactly chock-a-block with international airports.

I find it hard to dredge up much sympathy for someone who is here with no money...if a person traveled here with their last dollar, perhaps they should not be taking trips they cannot afford. People need to live within their means...nobody is entitled to an international holiday.

I am fortunate in that I have a place to stay (live here part time), food in the pantry, money in the bank. I need to go to USA, but if it gets delayed a bit, no problem. But if I needed to get out, I would get it done...same as I did from Mexico in the aftermath of September 11, 2001. And the same as many undoubtedly have already done from Thailand.

Hopefully when the whiners get out of here they will not return.

Having said that, governments/airlines are getting their national home. The UK just negotiates with "foreign airlines" for flights.

Exactly. I think some governments showed a lot of organizational ability. That would be a nice thing to know in the future if I were traveling somewhere and problems arose. The USA barely updated its websites. Very hand-offish. Whether the aid was truly needed or not is debatable. But it certainly helped the people get home. Many people have pretty firm commitments back home and overseas delays of several days and weeks is more than just a little inconvenience in many cases.

I too have a very flexible schedule. However, I could get a call tomorrow to start a new contract on Monday. It is likely I could not just change my flight and get home. The contract door closes very quickly, especially around the end of the year when they want somebody to start so they can show they have them on the books. The airport mess could cost me a lot of money and a great opportunity.

:wai: It seems that an opinion is not required on a forum???

So I posted this for those who are stranded out there and don't know what the fuc_k is going on because they are getting no help from the British Consulate out in Bangkok but as it seems to have pissed off an Aussie because it was about the British I must offers my sincere apologies for giving a shit.

Regarding my mother I doubt she will be grateful as she has been 6 feet under for the past 8 years but thanks I can look after myself these days.I spend 6 months a year out in Thailand and 6 months over here back in England and I know where I would like to be right now and it isn't here freezing my nads off.I don't care if you don't like the British as you clearly don't but then who the fuc_k likes you anyway other than some other retarded fuc_kwitt who takes great delight in other peoples misery. :o

Dave, Dave, let it go.

You posted for what? For concern for your fellow pasty-faced, shrivelled-up nuts, pathetic whining, where's my mummy types that couldn't find their own <deleted> with both hands and a flashlight? REALLY???

You assume that I am an Australian, a sexpat and reside in Pattaya. Three strikes and not even close. You are OUT!

But I, and several other forum members do know for sure that you are a one hundred and one percent English <deleted>.

Ah, the sun is up, the beer is cold and the girlies are stirring. As the old postcard says, "Weather here, wish you were fine."

You normally find the pome's are quiet sensitive when it comes to Aussies......its got to do with the cricket and how the Aussies normally WIPE their backsides with em. I must admit, it must be hard to swallow that they sent all their prisoners to a lovely little haven, all those years ago.....NOW WE MAKE IT HARD FOR THE POMS to join us :D:D:D:D Now now davie, stay calm, you'll be back in that cesspit in no time at all :P

I spend 6 months a year out in Thailand and 6 months over here back in England

please tell us , do you claim any government benefit at all during the year?

its all anonymous here , and even though we are all slagging each other off , we all love each other really. :D:o

but i'm really curious , and maybe some others are too.

:D Benefit :D

I wish I was but the answer is no, I just work hard and enjoy my time between Thailand and here,if you must know I run a travel business online so I can work and live anywhere and I split my time over here because I have family in both places, still thanks for asking I hope you are now happy that I'm not taking your hard earned tax money for doing nothing :D

thanks for answering and yes , thats a great relief to me , although your not being on benefit has also taken away a great opportunity to "have a go" !

hoping your business rides out the present difficulties.

I'mdoing OK as I only sell Africa safari holidays so my clients have an idea that it won't be cheap so I don't require high turnover to make money,I do have friends that are struggling to sell spainish holidays at £500 for Christmas and they only make around £40 per head.Still things can turn nasty any time so I won't gloat too much about how well I'm doing I will just say that it has been better and it could be worse but that is the same for any business at the moment. :o

as our goverment is useless at looking after us

idiot.

thailand , even with the airport shut down , is hardly a hardship posting.

but thanks to the generosity of the hard working and long suffering taxpayer and the cancer of socialism , brits have been spoiled by generous benefits , handouts and rights without responsibilities for far too long.

some of my countrymen tend to moan and bleat at the government or the council for help when anything goes ever slightly amiss in their lives.

Ho Hum, another bigoted and brainless post, be happy old man.

Not in danger ?

People die trying desperately to travel overland and get home.

People have jobs and responsibilities of wide ranging nature, losing jobs, incurring debt, running out of meds etc etc.

the troubles that led to the airport shutdown have been going on for months , other airports were shut down a few months ago. newspapers , travel sites and embassies have for a long time now been issuing warnings and advisories to travellers to thailand to be aware of the potential for trouble and disruption.

those stuck here should look at their own failings to take heed of the warning signs before being so quick to blame the (uk) government or the airlines for their predicament.

those with responsibilities back home should really have taken more notice before travelling out here.

those weaned for years by a nanny state have unfortunately had to learn the hard way that sometimes mummys apron strings dont reach far enough , and perhaps should consider holidays in more stable countries next time.

How can Brits find anything legitimate to whinge about over the airport closures, it's just horrendous. Aw, my government didn't send a plane to take me home and now I'm stranded, how sad and shameful of Gordon Brown, who incidentally is responsible for everything bad on the planet, including the weather and your ingrown toenail. Well if you really want to go home you can, via KL or Singapore or Hong Kong and by using regional airports and a little bit of effort. If this were DR Congo or similar I might have some sympathy but as things stand presently these whingers are an embarrassment.

In the few days before the airport reopened The State Department was in the process of arranging charter flights out of Thailand to surrounding countries where you would be free to make your own travel plans. However they stopped collecting names when BKK was released.

I understand the UK Home Office were about to issue an advisory that British Citizens in Thailand should fill cooking pots with water, listen to radio broadcasts every hour and apply identification tags to any family members that died during the crisis.
