Kawasaki Er6n

So, pretty sure you can order a Black sprocket from Kawasaki.

I found this comment amusing since I just returned from a protracted transaction at Kawasaki, where I ran foul of the "you can't buy spares unless you bought a bike from here" rule.

Much voice raising and arm waving later I eventually succeeded by remembering a long time friend who has at least two Kawasaki's. His name wasn't on the magic list but it seemed to work. Either that or as sometimes happens they just wanted shot of me.

Um...

How long have you been in Thailand?

Did you know that voice raising and arm waving are the perfect way to NOT get a problem resolved in the Land of Smiles. :jap:

You must learn the fine art of "Polite Persistence" which would get you laughed out the door back home but works amazingly well in this country.

BTW, where did this debacle take place?

Anyone can order spares from Kawasaki, but only customers who have purchased bike(s) from Kawasaki Thailand are entitled to a 10% discount. :whistling:

And your point is moot since NormanW bought his ER6n from the Mityon Kawasaki dealer in Pattaya.

Happy Trails!

Tony

Why would you assume that I actually waved arms and raised voices? Raised voice and waving arms is a cliché and an attempt at humour but agreed some does fall on stony ground. Best way is to ask for help, that usually works.cool.gif

Who cares about 10% it was not the discount, they said that unless one owns a Kawasaki "big bike' one cannot buy spares. Confirmed by the guy that does. Also stated was, one cannot buy Kawasakii "big bike" spares from any Kawasaki dealer.

Why also assume that posters on here have not been here for a while.jap.gif

Got what I needed and will remember not to go at lunchtime.

My stock sprocket, 2010 Ninja 650R is silver.

Ok, just double checked and see that the stock EX650 sprocket is available in two colors.

Silver on the Candy Lime Green 650R

Black on the Lime Green 650R:

You might notice that the bikes have different color stays, frames, handlebars etc.

Ride On!

Yeh thanks Tony, glad to hear Ninja is fine wink.gif

Looks like they are American spec bikes due to the front and rear reflectors.

I will go down and ask my friends at Mitiyon if they can order me a black rear sprocket as my silver one has done 25k and is dirty biggrin.gif

Nothing like a clean bike and those small bits shining

Keep those good times rolling jap.gif

LOLZ!

Yeah, those are US Spec pictures, but I assure you, the ER6n and Ninja 650R models sold in Thailand also have different color frames, sprockets, etc.

You just need to order the black sprocket and then keep it spotless!

I was downright ashamed at how filthy my Gixxer looked next to your spotless ER6n at the last Pirelli Track Day!

The Slime Green knuckles on your Alpinestars gloves are an awesome touch!!!

Wonder why you were given the run around. My mates with Grey Market Kwackers don't have any trouble ordering spares from Kawasaki Rama 9...

Sorry for thinking you're a Thailand noob, but if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck... :whistling:

Needing to replace my Dunlop tires before the road starts to get wet and have some cash now to do it. My main requirement is grip, especially when it does start to get wet, and second to that (though not a distant second by any means) is longevity.

Are the Bridgestone Battlax BT-023 still the choice?

What sizes (front and back) should I order, and where from? I'm in Chiang Mai.

Thanks a lot

Just look at the sizes of the Dunlops currently on the bike and get the same. BT-021's are a good bet, try here http://tyrethailand.com/Product/HomeProduct.aspx?cat=03B&src=0

Wow... have you had a claim with them perhaps? Those of us who signed up before they jacked their rates enjoy a discount every year we go without a claim, but once you have a claim your rates go through the roof... Unfortunately it seems that in Thailand people file insurance claims for every little thing so it's really no surprise rates have gone up dramatically... TiT :jap:

actually claims (or No Claim Bonus) follows bike, not customer

It seems like Falcon has moved up to same price level as the others, and 12k a year to cover 160k baht bike is not my thing. 3rd party 1mill x 10 and 2,5mill for property damage and bailbond can be had for approx 4k baht for a 650cc at ThaiVisa Insurance.com

Finally got a fews minutes to spare so I can submit a post here again. Phew!

The first photo is of the side lights which, are actually the same colour, but the ordinary looking one on the right has been in for a couple of months now. It was originally green like the one on the left but those 20 baht side lights do lose their sparkle quickly.

The LED type are hard to find and not of a high quality.

The second photo ( they don't seem to be uploading for some reason) is of my new Ohlins rear shock which is just sooooo sweet man.

What a difference.

The colour of the spring takes a bit of getting used to though hehe.

I will upload the pics when the Internet gremlin has gone to sleep.

Meancatdaddy is visiting England for a week or so and so I have asked him to get EBC brake pads, a new better quality chain to replace that CYC green thing and a nice black rear sprocket.

Should look nice once I also get the Ohlins 109k baht front forks errrrrrrrr NOT!

Keep those good time rolling.

I'd go back to wherever you bought it and give them a heads up on the problem and see if they'll offer you a solution.

Yeh, I thought of that Tony, but I just envisaged the typical Thai response. unsure.gif

I bought through a popular/well known website they were advertising on.

Just going to put it down to experience and move to the real thing from England Meancatdaddy is hopefully going to bring back for me.

If not, I've been looking on Dirtshop's website and they have DID and Rental chains and sprockets wink.gif

I'm still looking for a GoPro camera and Garmin SatNav.

Keep those good times rolling ( Well not today - I'm in the car - RAIN RAIN RAIN!) sad.gif

Concerning the waiting time:

Well.. I don't know where you ordered your bike. I guess @ Kwaker Pattaya. This so called 3 months waiting bla bla they always say in order to sell their crappy second hand bikes (mostly from rental shops) at a premium. Once you make clear to them you only want a new one they will have it within a few days, maximum 1-2 weeks. I have been in that situation a few times before.

I dare to say that for sure they are not telling you the truth!!

Don't fall for the "sorry no bikes available trap"

Have a nice Sunday!

New front and rear sprockets on with new chain. smile.gif

So, after all the turmoil of the standard chain noise and then the green CYC chain rust after only two months, I have finally got the drain train sorted. jap.gif

Meancatdaddy brought over the QX Belgian heavy duty chain and rear Sunstar sprocket from England. laugh.gif

The front sprocket I got from Tony which he kindly got from Kawasaki Rama 9 BKK because as we all know Mitiyon Pattaya never have anything in stock.

Their after sales is another story bah.gif

So, I now know the difference between a good and no so good chain. I found out today because my riding style is to have my left lag pointing outwards therefore, I can hear any chain noise coming up into my helmet.

Whilst riding home from work on the Silverlake route it became apparent that while my left leg was pointing outwards I couldn't hear any of that horrible chain noise. ARRRHHH I thought, I have my new chain on which was made in Belgium and therefore of better quality. Compounding this are my new sprockets so, in theory all these things ought to bode well for a new feel in the drain train area.

She certainly feels and sounds sweeter. It's also comforting not to have a circ clip on the chain which (as twice before) can come off. The consequences of that is extremely scary I'm sure you'll agree.

So, a big fat thank you to Meancatdaddy and Tony for sorting me out - I owe you a Pepsi biggrin.gif

Front Kawasaki sprocket - 919 Baht

Rear Black Sunstar sprocket 46 teeth as standard - 1000 baht (1900 in Thailand - yes England is cheaper)

QX Belgian Heavy duty chain - Can't remember - will post price when I see the invoice later.

Kawasaki service charge - 200 Baht

Here are some pictures I took yesterday of the whole process. Glad I have quality stuff on now. cool.gif

Keep those good times rolling jap.gif

I've seen pictures of Yoshi systems for the ER6 and it clearly has a fitting already welded in to take the o2 sensor. Are you sure they just didn't bother to fit it when they put it on your bike? Assuming someone did the work for you of course.

Not so sure about that- as the Yoshi system is made for the US market and the ER6n / Ninja 650R in the US doesn't have the O2 sensor so most US manufacturers don't include a bung on their pipes. Then again, it's quite possible that Yoshimura makes two versions- one without for the US market and one with for export. Perhaps the poster ordered the wrong pipe? At any rate- it will only cost a few hundred baht to have the bung added to the pipe. DO NOT RUN YOUR BIKE WITHOUT IT- you risk running lean and cooking your engine!

Calif spec should have O2 sensor to manage Calif emision similar to LOS emission

Hmmm, I'm not so sure about that Kata- TWO BROS is a California company and their pipes for the EX650 don't come with bungs for an O2 sensor. I suspect that massive 3 cat stock can plus Euro evap pollution equipment is enough to get the bike past California's strict emissions standards. Anyway- I'll be in San Francisco this coming weekend and if I have time I'll swing by a Kwackerzaki dealer and have a look.

Ride On!

Tony

you can buy the o2 bypass sensor very cheaply to fool the ecu, it increases power and develops a smoother power delivery, also the intake sensor can get the same treatment, buy them on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250762020370&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT and the intake 02 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mod-Chip-Resistor-5-25BHP-kawazaki-zzr-zxr-ninja-er6-/150586634280?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item230fa9b028

Can you explain HOW you get increased power and improved throttle response by eliminating the exhaust sensor? The whole point of the sensor is to allow the bike to adjust fueling within a narrow range. If you want to adjust fueling beyond the limited range of the ECU you need a fuel injection module such as Bazzaz FI, Dynojet Powercommander, Two Bros JuiceBox, etc.

As far as I can tell, all this little gadget does is eliminate the FI warning light that you would otherwise see on your dash when riding with a sensor disconnected or fouled.

Running a fuel injected engine with disconnected sensors can result in a burned pistons and valves if the engine runs too lean.

Spot on reply,

the same can be done with a 5 baht resistor...WHICH is what i did on my 650r, BUT i have the power commander with autotune fitted.....DO NOT USE ONE OF THESE unless you have an aftermarket ecu in use to lift your mixture back up or you will burn your pride and joy...
