Re-entry Permit Questions

Featured Replies

(1) Is the re-entry permit a piece of paper or is it a stamp in the passport?(2) If you buy the single re-entry permit at the airport, do you have a permit deadline which you have to be back to Thailand? (3) If you buy the 1 year multi permit, you can just leave Thailand any time and return any time as long as your visa is valid?

I think the re-entry permit is another way the Thai government trys to extract more money from foreigners. Because in all other countries when 1 year or multi year visa is given, you are free to leave and enter the country. In the case of buying re-entry to return to a country where you have a long term visa already just does not make sense except to think the Thai government wants more money in desperate way. This re-entry permit thing only remind me of Uzbekstan and Kazakstan where my Dutch friend married a Kazak and they have the same kind of stuff. I really hope the Thais can do a little better than the Kazaks.

1) You apply using a form, and a successful outcome results in a stamp in your passport.

2) You may use it at any time up until the expiration date of the entry permit against which it was issued.

3) Not a clear question. If you are talking about a one-year-multiple-entry visa, then every time you enter Thailand during the period that the visa is valid, you receive a fresh 90-day entry permit. If you leave Thailand without a re-entry permit, then upon your departure, theremiander of that entry permit is cancelled - you then start with a fresh 90-day permit when you next enter Thailand.

Cheers!

1. Stamp in passport with an expiration date the same as your current stay stamp or extension of stay stamp.

2. It is usable up to expiration date stamped on it. As outlined in 1.

3. You can leave/enter any time until it expires.
