Honda All Thai Motorcycles End 2009 With Pgm-fi

In the year-end speech of Takeo Fukui (Honda CEO) he announced that all motorcycles sold in Thailand will be equipped with PGM-FI by the end of 2009.

It seems that Honda go's 100% green for Thailand. What this all means for some models, which are currently, sold in Thailand was not disclosed.

Future more, we have somewhat of a conformation that Honda has developed a PGM-FI se for a single cylinder 250cc, if this PGM-FI is intended for the Thai market cannot be confirmed, the source did not want to reveal other then that the PGM-FI se is a Honda Thailand product

So no more Dream, Wave (with the exception of the 'i' model), no Sonic, no cheap Click, no CBR, no Airblade?

Basically what you're saying is that there's going to be the Cz-i, Wave-i, and Click-i and that's it?

Guess we'll see in some 13 months.....

No Dave it means that there will be new models released and some old models get a revamp and price hike. the cbr125 in the Uk is FI, so a simple matter for the CBR and SONIC as they use basically the same engine. the Airblade is now an 'I' model anyway. and i think they have already done the CBR150 going on a thread in cbr150club.com but gonna release it next year.

once you have a few models done its simple enough and the market is tested now they know Thai's want economy.

Strange... I just browsed through the "Summary of 2008 Year-End CEO Speech" that Richard referenced and I don't see anything to support what Richard is talking about...

Maybe I missed it. If I did can you point it out for me Richard? Here's the section on motorcycles:

Motorcycles will support Honda in the difficult business environment · Honda's toughness in meeting changes in the business environment comes from the global business foundation built around the three axes of motorcycles, automobiles and power products.

· History shows that motorcycles remain strong in a difficult market environment and have always supported Honda in difficult times. People showed renewed interest in the value of motorcycles which consume less fuel for commuting purposes as well as for their easy-to-own/easy-to-use efficiency.

· In the newly emerging countries in regions such as Asia and South America where motorcycles are being used for everyday transportation, long-term and steady market growth is expected despite some external factors such as changes in economic conditions.

< All-new Wave 100 > · Honda is planning to install PGM-FI to all motorcycle models sold in Thailand by the end of 2009. The most important model for this FI strategy, Wave 100, will undergo a full model change in January 2009.

· Wave 100 series, which is based on the Cub and thus can be called the "Asian Cub," has been a key model for Honda with annual sales of approximately 2.6 million units in seven countries mostly in the ASEAN region. Doh! My bad- just saw the sentence: "Honda is planning to install PGM-FI to all motorcycle models sold in Thailand by the end of 2009."

Interesting... Wonder if that will really happen...

I know they already did tests with the fuel injection on the CBR 150R, but the technical changes to make it work cost and the plus 15kg makes the price of the CBR 150R come pretty close to a single cylinder 250cc.

Currently the secondary costs like insurance and registering etc are equal for both a 150cc and a 250cc.

Worldwide, the market for a 250cc single cylinder PGM-FI se motorcycle is much bigger then the three or four and a halve countries the 150cc CBR 150R is now available. All countries the CBR 150R is available have the same 250cc limitation rules as in Thailand (ASEAN rules). The CBR 150R is in Australia also available as track-only bike.

No, what he was talking about was that in those countries the taxation on 250+ is excessively high.
