Recommendations For Cheap But Good Hospital?

Any recommendations for a hospital in centralish Bangkok at which you can get good service but at a cheapish price would be much appreciated.

Currently I use Samitvej which I appreciate is probably the most expensive hospital in Bangkok and the prices for the medicine I need are very high there (unfortunately it is not something that is available at pharmacies in Bangkok). I do appreciate the service level there and the speed of being seen but I really need to save some cash and so any suggestions for somewhere that is good but significantly cheaper would be gratefully received.

Try Bangkok Christian Hospital on Silom. Don't know how it compares with yours now, but a long time ago, it was quite a bit cheaper. Service is good there as well.

Agree with Scott on this one, but there are a many reasonable priced hospitals in Bangkok.

St Louis is another option, and Vinhavadi Rangsit is certainly another good hospital although a littel bit out of town (they have an international department as well, for foreign patients).

The biggest problem is, that medication prices in Private hospitals is a big profit area, so you will still undoubtably be paying over the odds wherever you go, but yeah, agreed should be a little cheaper as Samitivej is in the top tier hospitals along with Bumrungrad, Bangkok Hospital and BNH.

The chula pharmacy (across the street from MBK) carries many medications that are normally only carried by hospitals

I think the one on Sukhuvit between Ekkamai and Prakhanong is called Sukhumvit Hospital. I used it once long ago. It is definitely not fancy, but they seemed to get the job done.

Thanks for this suggestion. Is the 'Chula pharmacy' opposite MBK in the sense of the East side - and is it a white faced pharmacy with a green sign which you have to go up steps to go into? I tried to find it this morning and I found this one but it was closed this morning - is this the right one? Out of interest can you get insomnia related medication here or is that something that you need to go to the hospitals for in Thailand (I've no idea how the regulations work).

Thanks

I had a knee operation earlier in the year. I tried the Bkk christian hospital on silom rd but got the impression they were `sizing me up' and pitched their quote accordingly. In the end I settled for St Louis on sathorn rd. Treatment was great and I have no complaints whatsover. The bill was actually 30% cheaper than their quote.

I returned for a course of dental treatment (4 visits) and it was as good as any other dentist I have visited.

I believe that the hospital is a non-profit organisation, hence the reason you don't get ripped off

I've been using Phyathai 2 hospital just north of the Victory Monument on Phahon Youthin road. It was recommended to me by a longtime resident of BKK. I've been happy with the service there and considered it a good value when compared with some of the other places in BKK. Additionally it's walking distance (10-15 min) from where I live.

I've used Sukhumvit Hospital before also and was OK with it, nothing fancy as the other poster stated.

I too have used St. Louis Hospital for several years, and have indeed recommended them before on this forum. I am still not ready to withdraw that recommendation, HOWEVER:

The last time or two that I went there, I felt that I was being referred to specialists for minor problems that should have been attended to in the first instance by a GP. More recently, I have used Mahaesak Hospital, a small place just off the east side of Mahaesak Road. I have only been there a couple of times, again for small problems, but I am thoroughly satisfied: - fast service

- English speaking doctors

- and, low prices - probably at least 25% less than St. Louis for coparable services

As I said, this is a smaller place, so I don't know if they provide a full range of medical services. But for now, they have won my patronage, though I retain St. Louis as my second choice.

I have used Piyavate Hospital, defintely cheaper then Samitiveg. They are trying to go the international hospital route.

actually the best one I have used is a govt Hospital Ramathibodhi Hospital. They fixed me up good after my visits to Phayathai and Bumrungrad were a waste of time and all they recommended were more test. Rama hospital got me in, x-rays, blood test, piss test, swabs etc at a fraction of the cost. But note it is a govt hospital so you wont have the service of a private hospital.

Dont know if this hospital is good but Deja Hospital on Sri Ayuthaya road. Got myself a health certificate there for B250 :o

Since a few days I had a allergic reaction concering my skin. Since I live at Phra Khanong, Sukhumvit Hospital is very nearby, so I decided

to check it out. I was really surprised by the good and prompt service. I went in, registered, and walked straight to the skin clinic within the

hospital, where I could meet the skin specialist within about 10 minutes. This was a chinese woman, who could speak fairly good English.

She checked my problem, made her diagnose and wrote me the medication that I needed. The consult was 500 Baht, and the medicines

about another 500 baht. So I got a good first experience with this place. I used to go to Bumrungrad, but that place can be a bit expensive!

My doctor told me to buy the medication outside the hospital and I have been doing so for years, it’s about 75% cheaper.

I have never had a problem obtaining any kind of medication from my local pharmacist.

Chulalongkorn University Hospital which is just opposite Lumpini Park. I always go to the special clinic at 4 pm to avoid huge crowd. You have a pay an extra fee but who cares, its still a lot less expensive than those overpriced private hospitals. Guess what since i switched my chronic allergy treatment from BNH to Chula Uni Hospital, i have paid less than half and still get the exact same drugs. Some doctors who work at Chula Hospital also work part time at other private hospitals as well.
