Home Brew Wine And Beer

Featured Replies

Due to the 'downturn' many in the UK are turning to home brew wine and beer. Now I don't know about the beer, but my dear old mother has been fermenting home brew wine for many years and I must say, not only does it work out at 30p/litre but it is much better than the usual supermarket excuse for plonk.

Question being, are there any such kits in LOS, or do I have to fabricate my own?

Some info in this topic. However, you might want to check on what the current law states about brewing for personal use.

"“It is illegal to home-brew alcohol, whether fermented or distilled liquor, for either personal consumption or sale.

Section 5 of the Liquors Act (1950) states that it is illegal for anyone to brew their own alcohol, or even to have the equipment to do so.

The maximum penalty for contravention of this section of the Act is six months in jail, or a fine of 5,000 baht, or both.

If the offender sells the liquor, the maximum penalty rises to a year in jail or a 10,000 baht fine, or both.

Those are the maximum penalties and can be imposed for making and/or selling distilled alcohol (spirits).

The maximum penalties for brewing or fermenting alcohol – wine or beer, for example – are lower: 200 baht for making it and 5,000 baht for selling it.

People who want to produce home-brew liquors legally must apply to the Phuket Excise Office for a licence.”

Cheers.

It's for own use. If I get caught I'll just blame it on the wife.

Just use fruit juice. I've even heard of people using those dodgy scented flavoured tea bags!

Many, many, many years ago I used to make beer in Libya.

No beer kits available there.

We used sugar, Malt extract, and as a substitute for hops we used very bitter tea - boil the shit out of about a dozen bags. Plus of course yeast.

Very nice beer - very powerful and no hang overs. :o
