I cannot find my US passport and my Thai work permit. I do not have any idea what happened to them.

What should I do?

Is it hard to replace a US passport or a Thai work permit?

Can the US Embassy refuse to issue a new passport?

I'm very worried about this situation.

I am grateful for any assistance you can give to me.

Thank you.

First step - go to your nearest police station and make a police report detailing your lost passport / work permit, etc. You will need this report almost every step of the way to get things replaced.

Contact your embassy, and explain that your passport is lost, and what you need to do. I'm sure that you are not the first one in this situation, and they will probably have exact answers / step by step advice.

Got any copies of your passport anywhere? These will help to prove your identity.

Notify your employer immediately: they will have to contact the Ministry of Labour on your behalf about the work permit.

Can the US Embassy refuse to issue a new passport?

Sure they can, if they have a reason. If you are "wanted" in the US for any reason (back taxes, unpaid alimony / child support, criminal warrants), they will give you a travel document that is valid for one way only back to Uncle Sam. Otherwise, the procedure is straightforward.

First thing you must do is to get a police report for lost passport/WP

The embassy will get you a new passport.

Then you must go Sua Phlau in BKK to get visa/entry stamp and new arrival card.

You should be somewhere in the Computer systems.

For the WP.

Talk to your company/lawyer.

edit: bino, you are totally right.

and a faster response. :o

I have a British Passport which i lost when in the UK!

I replaced it in the UK but I am told here that my 1 year visa and work permit cannot be changed over to my new British Passport even though I have Photocopies of my Old Passport, Visa etc

What can I do?

If you had a multiple entry visa it was lost with your passport. You might of been able to have something done about that at the Thai embassy or consulate in the UK before you you left.

If it was an extension of your permit to stay immigration will transfer them over.

What did you use to enter Thailand?

If it was a multiple entry visa you will have to get a new one.

Your work permit was not in the passport.

Your company will be the one's that need to start the process of getting you a new work permit.
