If I gave my 1994 Virago to my Thai wife, who has been in Canada for over a year, could she ship to Thailand and just pay shipping, no taxes?

If so, would the bike have to be in her name for a certain amount of time?

Would the fact she does not drive be looked at, no MC license?

The idea is to give it to her brother.

If so, roughly what would it cost to ship?

oh, a guy once said, don't know if it's true, that he had his wife's Harley shipped to Thailand, rode it for a year, then sold it for way more than it cost over here.

Oh, again, what would a 1994 750 Virago be worth over there, less than the shipping?

eggo please at least browse the forum a bit before you post. There was a similar post just Today ( http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Insane-Big-S...es-t237017.html ). This has been done to death. sell the bike in Canada then buy a bike here. easier, safer and far less expensive.

I read that post. It didn't mention if a Thai shipped the bike.

Snowflake said "Nope, the import tax will be so high that it is actually cheaper to buy one here in Thailand... There might be ways around the tax, please let me know if you find one..."

Would there be import taxes if a Thai shipped it? Still might be that the shipping is more than it's worth?

as far as i know dude doesn't matter who does the shipping, import taxes on bikes are insane unless you want to completely take it apart and ship it as parts.....running gear separately. even with that, there's still no predicting how much you'll get dinged on the taxes.

definitely better off to find something local. not to mention that if your import docs aren't 100% in-order you'll never get it properly registered here.

good luck

Allan,

I was hoping no one would reply. A 1994 Virago?!?! :o I think it would be best to simply IGNORE posts of this nature. :D

Cheers,

Tony

WHY?????????? Just what the hel_l is the pont of a forum if you cant post ?? Most subjects have been done to death more than once or twice. Like telling people just to use the search function ?????

The last time someone just posted "Use the search function " !!!! when you did the last post was 18 months old and maybe the poster wanted some up to date info.

And I haven'tseen many 750 Viragos over here . Not a bad bike !! I've got a 1000cc Virago

But OP the general consensus is to sell it there and buy it here. Cheaper and far less hassle :D

There's some requirement for the shipper to have had their bike in their name for 2 years but I am not sure if it applies to Thai's or if it's on permanent imports or bike which will have CD plates. It's complicated and hardly worth the trouble! Sell it and buy something in LOS.

For the cost of the freight, duty and tea money you could buy the whole family a new small moto each!

Why ?? Perhaps because this question gets asked weekly.. The answers are right there.. In fact it was even asked TODAY !!

If a poster is too lazy to search, read the wealth of available answers, and consider the situation.. Why should the active posters spend the time to retype again and again the same answers that posters are too lazy to simply read !! Why is my time of less value than thiers ??

Tho just for the OP.. Click This Link

Why not let one of these guys ship a bike in and then write a post on how long and how much they payed? Would stop the guys from asking the same question every week. Like someone else said if it were that easy we wouldn't be buying at double the prices back home. Burrah!
