Not impressed with the buzzy engine, lack of power, middling brakes and suspension.

Well sure, it can't compare to a BMW or even a real Japanese bike, but for only ~80,000 I have to admit that the Tiger 250 sounds like a good value. I say any bike is better than no bike!

Happy Trails

Hey Kano,

Sorry if you're feeling dissed. Comparing BMWs and Tigers is just silly. Just for the record, I have nothing against the Tiger and once again I say it appears to be a good value for the money.

Always enjoy reading your posts about your adventures on your Tiger 250RS and hope you'll keep sharing.

Happy Trails!

I hope by "to see if I can play with his gun" you're talking about his six shooter...... :o

Drat Dave, you beat me to the bad sexual inuendo about riding the cops tiger, and playing with his gun!

On a side note, and not that this may or may not have to do with the conversation, I am pretty sure the Tiger isn't the only motorbike model in the police force's garage. I have seen them on CBR's, old kawasaki's and what have you. So I do not necessarily think there are 125,000 bought by the police force.

Thai cops ride all sorts of bikes. I often see motorcycle cops in BKK escorting VIPs on BMW RT's and at the Chiang Mai Bike Week there were coppers on Harleys and Buells. Sure- it appears the basic street cop is issued a Tiger Boxer these days, but you still see a lot of guys on CBR150s, KSR's etc. There's one Thai copper who patrols the highways around Bangkok on a stunning K1300S :D

Hi Tony,

I love your posts too dont take it personal.. I don't have any problems with critics if they are the truth. Since i have a boxer i know many of the posts has been written ,without knowing why to write them .Even dont know why the boxer is bad. Or more recently dont even know which boxer they tested

If someone doesn"t know it better keep quiet. Thats what disturbs me many of the people around us are simple mongers .....

that's my point . Luckily some of us here are real bikers.

Charlie,

Happy trails to the real bikers

OK guys, I think the cops on the big BMW's are a little different from the typical BKK BIB. What's the deal with their bikes? I thought they had to buy their own bikes (thought someone said that here) or something like that. It was a discussion of why cops demand bribes and it was mentioned they had to buy all their own stuff. I have seen the coppers on the big touring bikes. These are not local police. I have always seen them when they are escorting some central government VIP, like the King, or a busload of military cadets, or something above and beyond the local government. (Those for sure I know the government buys for their use.)

For those which are interested in the Tiger Boxer 250 Rs qlty

6200 km on the clock

Looking at the Tiger Boxer 250 RS, with its sporty cruiser looks, newly designed aluminum swingarm and upside down front forks, it is hard to belief that this motorcycle has no competition on the Thai motorcycle market. The closest competitor is maybe the Kawasaki ninja 250. The Kawasaki is a sports bike and not an all-rounder like the Tiger.

This bike is a perfect well balanced budget bike to ride on. You can use it for daily commuting or even longer distances like I do. The Tiger Boxer 250RS is pillion-friendly bike and the soft seat, low pegs should give your pillion driver a great ride. The seat is spacious and comfortable enough for longer trips and the nicely spaced pegs give ergonomic body position.

I‘ve been on the road for about 5200 km with my Tiger now. I’m very satisfied with the Tigers performance. A few blips of the throttle reveal instantly that the Tiger is a 250 cc single thumper. Producing a rough roaring sound. Not the bee in a pickle pot sound. The engine can rev remarkable easy, without being to revvy in nature, the 250cc single cylinder gives a smooth surge between 6000 to 8500rpm that's perfect at real road speeds. I’d been riding other 250cc bikes before . I always had the feeling at speeds of more than 100 km/h that the engine will explode, nothing is left from that feeling when riding the Tiger. The tiger is a torquey bike. It reveals its high torque at low revs. That makes the bike very powerful , when the rider must overtake slower trucks in 3rd or 4th gear , is a piece of cake with the Tiger . The bike keeps gaining speed, without being blown off the road from the trucks displacement. The Tiger always remain stable. A light feel and ample leverage from the handlebars gives easy, prompt direction changes – picking off traffic and slipping through congestion is a breeze, especially from the elevated upright riding position. The engine with its large oil cooler withstands the Bangkok heat with no trouble . Riding the swooping mountain roads to Chiang Mai , Mea Sariang and Mea Sot with my Golden Tiger Girl was a joyful ride.

The maintenance for this bike is also dirt cheap ,depending on you personal motor oil choice a service cost of max 200 baht .But I always go for the better motor oil 5W50 semi- or 10w40 synthetic oil.Adding the low fuel consumption about 3,3l/100 km on Gasohol 95 .make this bike a genuine bargain. If The Tiger Boxer 250 Rs keeps performing like this .it’s by far the best value for money bike on the Thai market and probably many other markets abroad .

Therefore ,I truly recommend this sporty all-rounder to anyone that loves sporty touring and is not so keen on speed bikes. Long distances and city traffic become is no longer a burden with this Tiger .

happy trails to anyone,

Charlie
