Here is a little discription how to get the little 'Passport' for your car. If you want to take your car across the thai boarder an international transport permit is required.

You must apply for the ITP ( International Transport Permit ) at your Department of Land Transportation where your vehicle is registered. In our case we went to the office in Patumtani.

What you are beein asked for:

  • Blue Book from your Car ( proof of ownership ) - note, you will not be given an IDP if you are financing
  • ID or Passport form the owner of the vehicle
  • Copies of the pages with the registration and tax payments ( from the blue book )
  • 55 Baht

The whole process is straight forward and doesnt take more then 10 minutes. You have to fill a form. post-72708-1234503799_thumb.jpg We have been told to fill out the form in english, as the passport will be in english as well. After 5 minutes of waiting, we submited the paperwork and paid the 55 baht, we have been told to come back the next day.

Today ( 1 days later ) the ITP was ready for pickup. It was pretty easy to obtain with no hurdles. The whole process didnt took longer then 10 minutes plus the drive to the Department of Land Transportation.

Now we are proud owner of a car with a passport ! :o I hope they dont ask for a VISA for our car from now. post-72708-1234504480_thumb.jpg

Edit: Changed from "Driving" to "Transport" Permit

This seems to be an Internatonal Transport Permit (sometimes called a Triptych or Trip Ticket ) to take a vehicle across borders.

An International Driving Permit is for a person.

Note that some countries also have restrictions and regulations to comply with when transporting a vehicle across its borders so just having this does not automatically mean you can take your vehicle anywhere you like.

I have driven out of the country and never had one of these..

I read (on GT-R) they stopped issuing them at many DMV's a couple of years ago ?? That this was being phased out and could only be got at more rural ones that didnt seem to gear about it.
