As I said before my teflon tyres have to go.. My fighter is making some progress and I may as well get this done as part of the stage 1 as theres no way in hel_l I want to ride with these rock hard things on there skating about.

I have seen some michelin BT45's priced and they can get me BT21's (good reviews for a dual sport) at ok prices but like everything on this island, choices are limited and prices are inflated (tyres ?? really !! :o )

Is there a wholesaler or good price dealer in bangkok with a full range of stock ??

Did someone mention the guy at bira had a line on tyres ??

I am not going to cheap out (for once :D ) on my tyres but still my innate frugality makes me want to get the best price for whatever I am buying.. So if anyone has a good dealer who communicates well that I can hit up let me know. Really I want to see whats on the market (the blade has a 16 inch front so limits choices I think) and then have a look at reviews.

Also whats peoples thoughts.. I am not a knee dragger and am less of a sport rider than many. But obviously want good stability and confidence. Everyone I speak to locally are advising against going for sport / track type supersport tyres.. The Super corsa type things I can order... Everyone is saying that the road crud, dust, sand and riding terrain here make them not a good choice. As I am not planning on track days (or only as a novelty if I happen to be around when you guys go sometime) what do people reckon to that advice? Theres loads of info out there for lifespan v grip but I dont know how much of that grip advice directly applies to the roads here and my limited ride ability.

If you have a shop/mechanic you usually use, try asking them first. They can usually order in many different brands of tyres from their contacts.

Other than that, the only places I have seen a tyre rack are Red Baron with, Pirelli, Bridgestone and I think Michellin... whilst Paddock has Metzler.

Already dropped Paddock an email for prices as the Metzler does have a 16 inch front combo.. Reading people tear through those M1's tho in 3500 - 4k miles !! :o

Local advice here is pushing BT45s.. I think the 21's are a better choice for the bike.. Pilot powers would be good to get a price on.

HI

Scotty can get some tyres for you, he say they are good and if you see him driving around corners i think they are, and cheap too

Scotty recommended the BT45 battlax ones..

While I dont want to go super sport track type I think the 45's are a bit too touring.. the 21's are high on the list.

If you're still in the purchasing stage, why don't you try and find some proper 17" rims for your fighter? I suppose you could pick them up on the cheap, although making sure they're in good nick could be problematic, and would open up a lot more choices for your tyre selection.

I had mine changed on the R1 about 2 months ago to BT-021s . Price for front and rear was 12,400 baht fitted . Most of the dealers in Pattaya go through the same dealer as he is the direct importer . PM BBBKK for the number and adress , or at least you have a price to compare with . Cheers , Jim .

Rim change entails more than I want to do.. Finding a suitable replacement changing the front fender, speedo issues.. etc etc..

And the 16 inch fireblade front end is part of its notorious fast turn in..

Thanks.. How are you finding those BT-021's ?? right now thats the prime choice as can be sized have some mid durability and arent silly prices.

I mailed red baron and Paddock yesterday but Thai companies and email.. Makes you wonder why they have them !!

I am quite happy with them at present , I have only clocked about 1500 on the ZZR ones and there is no sign of flat spot yet .

I got off my backside and found the card for this dealer , it's all in Thai , but the numbers are 02-2223789 , 2238214 , 2214726 , 6232042 , Fax 02-2263806 .

The guy does speak english and is a pleasure to do business with .

Cheers ,

This is where a lot of the big bike shops in BKK get their tires. I haven't gone out there but I think it is in China Town (Yaowarrat).

Cut and Paste from the BKKriders page:

Big Bendum

(Ek Pai Boon)Mr. Pairoj has a large stock of specialist bike tires. He can supply, change and balance tires for you. 481 Santiphab Road

I didn't say they had dual-pricing scheme ... I just know my secretary.

She probably 'cooed and kaa-ed' into the phone in a most sexy way and got a good deal for 'her' bike. Then I showed up with the price in-hand. :o

It's a nice shop. I recommend them.

For any kind of Pirelli Big Bike Tire, I recommend this shop in the On-Nut/Sukhumvit Area. They have loads of stock. The owner speaks perfect English and overall I was served very well by them. Have someone Thai call ahead for pricing and you may get a really good deal.

How can you recommend a shop with a dual pricing policy as providing good service.

Hi, it's ko at ShowPow Pirelli Tyre shop.

I'm not sure what you mean by dual pricing policy.

If it means "Thai price/ farang price" than you must be mistaken us for other shop.

We dont have that ugly policy. But we must admit that if we get haggled about the price,

We tend to give some discount becasue we are nice people.

I'm also a big biker and a superbike racer myself so we are determine to give best service.

Dont forget to check out sports bike tyre tests at pirelli web site

I only buy from Graham on Bira, he only sells Pirelli and he is a bit more dear than the big dealers in BKK, I however save myself a trip up there 400 km roundtrip and I get a lot of free help from him which is priceless.

What size are you looking for anyways?

My bike use 180 rear and 120 front which is a cool fit for Pirelli Diablo III good for about 10,000 km if you stay the hel_l away from a race track, there they're good for 3 track days maximum but who said playing on track was cheap? Biggest expense there are tires... They are multicompound with hard center and soft sides for max grip and lifespan highly recommended. Think they come in 180 and 190 rear not sure about the front.

I was very happy with the service at ShowPow and recommend them without reservation. (Cheaper than BIRA too)

In fact- I need to head over there soon- the Dragons on my ER6 are thrashed :)

Ride On!
