I´ve been trying to find tables for calculating annual car tax in Thailand - I´ve been told that the rate steps down each year for several years as the car/truck gets older, until a basement price is reached.

Also I believe that 4 door vehicles - whether car or truck/pick-up - are punished in comparison to 2 doors - ie 4 door vehicles start at a higher annual rate when the vehicle is new, but also step down each year until the (higher?) basement is reached.

All ideas and comments welcome - how much annual tax do you pay for your vehicle (please state vehicle type, number of doors and official age to educate us)...

The reason for my post is that I´m looking at buying a pick-up but haven´t yet decided on 2 or 4 doors - if the tax on 4 doors is nasty I´ll buy a 2 door. BTW is an open cab (2 big doors and 2 tiny suicide doors) deemed as a 2 door or 4 door?

Thanks :o

Next years tax rate is written into your "blue book"

A 4 door pick up is about 6400 which starts to reduce after 5 years by about 800 baht per year.

A 2 door pick up with the green plates (?) the rate uis about 900 baht

I believe the extra little doors don't count.

Been covered a few times on this forum before, have a read through or search for those magic words.

I understand the major break point is after 7 years. Two door vehicles are discounted from the normal four door vehicle rate as the two door vehicle is considered for agriculture use typically. Note those pickups like the Ford Ranger 'open cab' that has two rear doors that are enclosed with the front passenger/driver door are taxed as a two door pickup.

Other factors include engine size and if a particular type size/weight carry-boy load space cover has been fitted - also when such a cover was fitted (see most interesting thread where someone recounts their experiances of paying a small fee to have the carry-boy 'aged' to avoid a back dated tax bill.)
