Bangkok To Lao By Train.

Featured Replies

If I wanted to go to Vientiane, Lao by train from Bangkok what would be the best way to go?

you would have to take the overnight train to Nong Khai and cross the bridge yourself and than take a taxi to vientiane. This is all very easy and doesn't take long

There's a train now that goes all the way across the bridge. Google it on Thai Visa. There was a thread not long ago about it.

It still does not go to Vientiane so not really much use except for bragging rights.

Yes, it stops short of Vientianne, and you have to take a tuk-tuk or taxi the rest of the way. But, it does get you across the border with a minimum of customs hassles, which is a huge improvement. If you don't take the train across the border, you just have MORE hassle (more tuk-tuk/taxi rides on the Thai side, longer stops at the border, etc.).
