Can anyone tell me of a good place to buy pond, and Koi supplies in Bangkok, apart from JJ Market?

Thanks

There are many Farms, but all are at least an hours drive outside of BKK....... West - North West and South West, the main big Fish markets is about 100km south west of BKK.[open 7 days a weeks but the best is to get there in the early hours of Tuesday morning, but VERY busy with all the Traders from BKK and area] also in the same area are 3 smaller ones [markets] and 4 Farms.

JJ Market is very expensive..

The oblong fiberglass ponds they sell the fish from cost 7,000 baht !! anyone can buy from the wholesaller they get them from 1,850 baht.

Good Koi are between 6 - 7,000 baht, same size from the Farms 1,500 - 2,000 etc etc.

Thank's for the info ignis. I live in Bangkok, and have a truck so driving 100km is not a problem. Do you have any more information about these farms/suppliers. I'm particularly looking for some of the round, collapsable temporary holding ponds.

Regards

Some of the Farms are out in the sticks and not easy to find, will look up a couple of the phone numbers and send you a PM

The easy one to find and you can buy any day is on Bang Yai Rd, he goes himself to Japan to buy. if you are coming from BKK... just after the new South Bus Station you need to turn right, so if on the Expressway then take the next exit, arrive at same place to turn. or on the bottom road get out of the middle right after the Bus Station, then go 2nd left, both turns are together signed to Saphan Buri, you are now on Bang Yai Road, drive past Tesco about 8km further on is a U Turn [up and over] after doing the U Turn the Farm is on the left there is a big sign outside with Koi fish pictures, turn in there is a big parking area

I have one, I never use it now it is nothing but a pain... difficult to fill with water, difficult to cover, difficult to clean.

The Firberglass blue ones are so much better, simple to fill, simple to empty, simple to cover, they will also stack inside each other when not used, I have 4 x 100 x 60 which cost 1,150 baht each, also bought bamboo cover rolls @ 25 baht each..... one of the tanks lives in the back of the pickup..

I made my own Filtration system using a wheelie bin without wheels bought from the same place. 650 baht.

This is the first place that i have seen that fishes for Koi, i know it is in the UK, the place is packed every weekend with anglers fishing for Koi, 2 LB to 20 in weight, the place is called Anglers paradise, anybody in Thailand that does a venture like this. fishing for Koi.

Wife and i have just dug some big lakes to start a fishing resort, this has given me an idea to just have a fishing lake for Big Koi and various speices of Carp, the digging was bl......y hard work :o .

I always thought Koi were just show fish, did not know that people fished for them.

Hi Thaicoon , I think that what you are refering too is continental styled fishing .

Tackle is quite specialised .Although an avid angler myself I have only a extremely vague idea of how the fishing is done, but tackle used there for the cold water carps applies considerately more finess then South East Asian fishing styles.Client catch and release would be the furthest thing in my mind if you were to stock with carp or koi .

Hi Ignis , Any idea how active koi clubs are in the Kingdom?

There are some clubs with Japanese affiliation for Ranchu so I guess that there might be some of these around.

Hi guys, anyone know where in Buriram i can buy good size Koi Carp, talking 10 inches plus, need about 50. was talking to a guy in Buriram and he mentioned somewhere by Big C, 200 baht for One fish, brother in law has been to look but cannot find the place.

Anyone got any info.

I am wondering if you have any luck found what you need at Buriram. I have a koi farm at Nakhon Nayok near to Jorporlor (the army camp). I have more than 3000 pieces of assorted kois. The parents came from Dainichi Koi Farm of Japan. If you are interested please let me know and we can make arrangement for you to view the koi fish. They are very beautiful.

You can contact me at email removed per forum rules or call me at 0817550527

Hi Thaicoon :) , I live in Satuk and have just started my Koi collection. I bought my Koi opposite Big C in Buriram. It is a small shop next door to the place where they sell hand carved wooden furniture. You will miss it if your not looking but if you go past Big C from the cross road traffic lights and do a U Turn at the Toyota garage then drive (slowly) back up towards Big C you will see the place on your left. The guy is great, not much english but my wife helped me with the translation. I bought some lovely baby Koi (mixed)and a couple of 8" Ogon's (i think) for 1200 Baht each. He also has a good selection of other fish and some huge show Koi of his own, well worth a look. Hope this helps. Let me know how you get on.
