Wolves will be playing Premier League football next season after their promotion from the League Championship was confirmed with a 1-0 win over QPR at Molineux.

As he has been throughout the season, top-scorer Sylvan Ebanks-Blake was the hero of the hour once again for Mick McCarthy's side, slotting Andy Keogh's pass home a minute after the break for his 25th goal of the season.

Wolves had to ride their luck at times as the visitors applied the pressure in the second half, but the league leaders held firm to secure their ticket to the top flight next season.

Birmingham remain in the second automatic promotion spot and moved four points clear of third-placed Sheffield United after Cameron Jerome's late winner gave them victory at Watford.

Cardiff stay in fourth but their hopes of making automatic promotion took a major blow after they were hammered 6-0 at Preston, who revived their own hopes of making the play-offs.

North End are now just a point away from the top six after a Neil Mellor brace, strikes from Jon Parkin, Chris Brown and Lee Williamson and a Mark Kennedy own goal giving them a crushing win at Deepdale.

Swansea also kept their play-off hopes alive with a 1-0 win over Bristol City, Garry Monk heading in at the near post from a corner on 25 minutes to give Roberto Martinez's side all three points.

Reading are still fifth after a disappointing goaless draw at the Madejski Stadium with Barnsley, who are a point above the relegation zone.

At the bottom, Charlton were relegated to League One after letting a two-goal lead slip at home against Blackpool.

The Addicks appeared to be going down fighting after Deon Burton and Jonjo Shelvey scored a minute apart straight after half-time.

But DJ Campbell pulled a goal back from the penalty spot for the visitors with just over 20 minutes remaining before substitute Lee Hughes sealed Charlton's fate with an equaliser in stoppage time.

Things also look grim for second-bottom Southampton after a Luke Varney brace condemned them to a 2-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday which leaves the Saints three points from safety with two games to play.

Nottingham Forest moved out of the bottom three and up to 20th with a 1-0 victory over Coventry courtesy of James Perch's winner a minute after the break.

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace beat Derby 1-0 despite having Victor Moses sent off, while Doncaster ran out 3-0 winners at Plymouth.

Yes Congratulations to Wolves, they got their shit together over the last few weeks and made it.

I was reading on-line a comment by a Wolves supporter who said it had been a "Freaky" season. At one time they were so far out of sight, then pegged back to two points and if it was not for the fact that the chasing pair at the time both wobbled along with them ...they could have been looking at a play-off place.

However I think Brum will get second spot...they have the joy of playing their last game at Reading who are now desperatley trying to cling on to a play-off spot after another dissapointing reult yesterday...one win in 10....if we come up against United in the first round (which I dont think we will) we will get stuffed, in fact we will get stuffed even if we play Burnley or Cardiff the way we are playing right now.

United to go through the play-offs I am sad to say, but happy for them.

No way I want to see Cardiff in the Prem, and I don't think Burnley have the financial clout to sray up, but they have done very well in the cups this year and if it was not for the distraction they may very well have claimed an automatic spot, they lost 5 games on the bounce while they were involved in the 2 cup comps!

But all this is off topic.....well done Wolves, I am looking forward to seeing how Ebanks-Blake does against Premiership defenders

The key is Mighty Mick knows the pain of coming straight back down and now has a Chairman who hopefully will financially support him so it doesn't happen again.................Well I can dream

Oh dear god here comes the dingles! :o

Ah well hopefully Mick will be aiming to repeat his last season in the Prem so it'll be one less relegation space place to worry about! :D

Well done to Wolves!! At least Brian and the infamous Cockdown :o , will now be able to watch Wolves every week next season at The Crossbar.

the problem is now Brian will only show Wolves games so if your 'real' team is on at the same time, you will be out of luck :D

delighted for wolves, have had a soft spot for them since going to university there. cracking football town, good fans and a fine stadium. plus their fans look likely to have the double whammy of them going up and seeing the baggies plummet back past them.

Congrats to Wolves and i just wish an old mate of mine is still alive today as the gentle giant would have loved the day.One of my best away days was with the Wolves, and my mate dennis had taken care of me when we got pissed in the town centre before the game with the mighty Potters.

A tear or two will be shed by me for the big man when i see Wolves first game in the premiership

RIP DENNIS

Am just hoping this time they will go up with the intention of staying up,rather than last time in 2004.Am old enough(unfortunately) to remember the wolves of the late 50's and 60's,where i would n't be seen without my wolves shirt on,and am really hoping for some good buys before the season begins to keep them up.Roll on august.

Actually there are 2 SA Sat receivers and UBC so 3 matches can be shown at the same time. Commentary will be on the match with the most supporters in the bar

:D James I think it is you who is getting a little sensitive, no need to apologise, I was also taking the P*ss. Brian said that he is going to ring the bell everytime Wolves win next season, sadly I reckon that wont be to often. :D

Posted
need to take a look at next year's fixture list - can't see the bell getting rung more than 5 times and would hate to miss it :o

Yeah, I reckon you may be right. He declined my bet, Brian and Cockdown don't seem to confident.

wolves will have a chance if they take the stoke approach rather than the west brom one. they've probably got three or four players who are good enough to do a job in the top flight so they're going to need to buy smart over the summer. i hope they do stay up as i like mick mccarthy and have a few mates who are wolves fans.

CHAMPIONSSSSSSSSS.........................Sorry but it's been awhile.

Congratulations :o

On the balance of things you deserve to be Champions, can't wait to see what Ebanks-Blake performs against some of the best defences in the world...he is some player

Now you can watch the fun of who will be joining you from a safe comfortable seat :D

Well done, but you struggled against a nearly relegated Barnsley today, how you gonna do against the top clubs. You might have beaten them today and done the old Canary's a favor, roll on Monday Thaipauly, I will be there!!!!

A cup Final for both of us , but for very different reasons....I have no wish to see Norwich relegated....so I hope you win your LAST game of the season :D

What a season for the Dingles.

WOLVES UP

WEST BRAZIL DOWN.

So the pundits were wrong as usual, they said West Brazil are a good footballing side and will sty up PMSL.

They forgot to say the defense is bloody useless.

Also Stoke were very lucky that the money grabbing, toothless, pathetic excuse for a goalkeeper,SCOTT CARSON,has contributed immensley to Brom getting relegated with his many inept performances.
