My Step Son Has got his Girl Pregnant I dont know how old She is Only looks about 14 He is 19

They have been sleeping together at Her mothers house for the last 6 months

I told my wife to tell him to make sure he is using Protection. He has no job only just left School.

I do not agree with Abortion unless there are Special Reasons. Thats just my personal view

Maybe this is A special case the girl being very young. I realy think the kids want to keep the baby, But the girls mother and Farther dont want her to have it.

My Wife has taken them to Chang Mia Question Is It Free and Legal at Government Clinics ?

I dont know why and its not my busines but I feel Shit over this

I have spoken to my Wife about it before they took off to Chang mai I dont think she is 100% about the abortion

I do understand why the girls parents dont want the problem

So it's up to them I just worry the kids will think Later they have done the wrong thing

wow, tough situation.

I believe it is 'officially' illegal to have one here unless some extreme circumstances - life threatening etc etc.

Perhaps someone can clarify.

It is easy to have an abortion here in Thailand. There are clinics everywhere. As it is in early stage cost will be about 6,000 Baht.

I think you will find that it is illegal. I was involved with a situation some time back and NO, not mine. I did try to help the girl. She couldn't get help from a government hospital and instead bought abortion pills. The pills killed the fetus but it did not abort. She was then VERY sick and went back to the government hospital. They performed a D&C on her at no charge because it was life threatening. Fortunately it worked out OK for her. She later married a Thai man and the last I heard had two healthy children by him.

Indeed, pretty tough one.

You mention you think the kids want to keep the baby. Do they have experience of being around young babies? Are they aware of the responsibility involved?

Their parents dont want them to keep the baby right? But, if the pregnancy goes through, do you think they will help out? Otherwise, what other support network is available for them? They are most likely going to need some help with the baby.

The decision should be an informed one. I dont know what is available in Thailand, but is there an unbiased (pro-choice) clinic/health worker/councilor who they can talk it over with too? Someone needs to have a good talk with them and ask some hard questions about how they will bring up and support the baby. Long term goals/plans. Give them an awareness of what responsibilities it will bring. I think only then can they have a clear idea in their minds what to do.

I dont believe anyone should coerce them into anything, otherwise will breed resentment and regret. Should be well thought through and thought out.

The mother having a baby means she will not be allowed to follow school.

Don't know if abortion is illegal. Don't think show as one of my students had one at a goverrnment hospital. As it was in a small vilage the abortion meant that the girl had to leave school. The director didn't ant her at the school because of gossip, although the director arranged for her to go to another school.

Thanks eek I agree with all you are saying here. I doubt Counciling is available maybe they will have a talk to them at the Clinic.

As for the girls parents helping her out that is doubtfull Her Mother works in the market full time.

It would be the girls responsabilty and she is Young So I do understand

Like you say they Bouth Need A good talking to about Contaception.

The time for thinking as gone. Now it is Importaint to make A decision Quickly.

My wife has had a legal abortion in the past, although that was in the case of an ectopic pregnancy which is a life threatening condition.

They might make an exception in the case of a very young mother, although best to ask an expert.

The best course of action is for them to contact a branch of the PDA as soon as possible and see what they say. Head Office:

My friend fell pregnant in Thailand and was told that whilst illegal, if she went to Klong Ton hospital (Bangkok) they could do it, cost 6000baht. It was the drug induced one, although they also used some sort of physical method too to 'help it along'.

In case that doesn't work out:

Population & Community Development Association - Chiang Mai Branch

Ratchamakka Rd., Tambon Pra Singh, Muang District, Chiang Mai Province

This is a famous NGO, originally involved in family planning and later HIV/AIDS prevention and other things. It isn't a government agency.

If they do decide to have an abortion, then as you say, a talk about contraceptives would be the next step. Hopefully they also have a good emotional bond as a young couple too, as I imagine both of them (but particularly the girl) must be a bit emotionally frazzled by it all. Im sure she could do with some tlc afterwards. Hopefully family members will be understanding too, and not remind them about this.

Whatever they decide I wish them all the best. (But, its also good that they can review their options. If they think they want to keep the baby, then would be good to talk that part over too. Maybe they could be responsible enough. Find a way to support each other and the baby. But, they need to have a serious think about it all.)

My view - abortion 100%.

Alternatives ? the mother ends up a no hoper. Her lack of knowledge now is the reason she is up the duff. Father will likely do a runner after the first nappy change, if he lasts that long.

The result - mother gives kid to her mother or grandmother. She ends up in a dead end job or working as a hooker. Kid has no future to look forward to. Father will never be around. Kid is just another statistic.

I see no other outcome remotely positive other than abortion.

PDA is the place to go, price 2000 (last time i checked was in 2008)

the number of the PDA (www.pda.or.th) in CM is 053-227 805 (-6)

if u cannot get through call them in BKK, they are very helpful, and ask them where to go

i am not sure they run there own clinic in CM, they may refer u to PPAT (Planned Parenthood Association in Thailand, www.ppat.or.th) 053-249 406, 053-246 347 (clinic)

As explained in the pinned notice, abortion is legal if licensed Thai physicians make a determination that the woman's health -- physical or mental -- requires it. Only a doctor licensed to practice medicine in Thailand can make that determination for any particular case.

And the girl would, of course, have to consent.

Unfortunately it is not possible to state that a given hospital will or will not perform the procedure since it is a matter of a physician making the determination that the procedure is necessecary for the woman's physical or mental health. It is not done "on demand". And even the fact that a specific doctor performed it for one person in the past does not mean he will make the same determination in another case.

All that said, individual doctors do of course vary in their personal beliefs and attitudes and this does affect decision making especially in the subjective area of "necessary for mental/emotional health"

And I do understand that you want to avoid going somewhere only to have them refuse to do the procedure and/or give flack about it, this is an upsetting enough situation without that

Best advice I can give then is to go to a PDA clinic. They are strongly pro-choice and I have not known them to refuse to perfrom the procedure as long as the woman herself was clear that it was what she wanted to do.

They do not however have a location in Chonburi, you will need to go to Bangkok.

As these are clinics, they cannot perform abortions beyond a certain gestation (certainly not more than 12 weeks, possibly not more than 8-10). However if they are unable to do it due to the gestation they will refer.
