Thanks hanno, I'll try and track down Blackbirds.

The chick is pretty easy to take photos of. To get it to open its mouth, all I have to do is shake the limb that the mother usually lands on and open the mouth goes.

Tomorrow I'm picking up a new lens so I'm excited to see what else I can do with a chick and a canon.
