use Photomatix a lot, you need at least 3 bracketed (raw) shots to make it work

I use it for my HDR shots.... or even to tone-map a single image

before i got the full version ....(with watermark)

that's a three exposure image...on tripod.... aperture Priority.... f.8... tripod.... one stop over and under

opened in Photomatix and played with the sliders until it looked good ;-)

a single image can be enhanced too... by making a copy of it then loading both the copy and original into Photomatix

I never bother to shoot RAW
