I also want to extent my warning that buying motorcycles from financial companies can have unexpected angles for unexperienced buyers. So you can buy a bike for a good price, but find the bike book is not in name of the seller, the financial company, so you need to find the previous owner to get it transfered.... Even if you find him/her you will find not much co-operation in transferring the bike into your name...

Most of the time, Thai traders use bikes like this as source for parts... and not for legal road bikes... For anybody looking for a road legal motorcycle.... do not touch it.... it doesn't work

I know multiple people who have bought bikes via the auction near bangkok (name escapes me right now)..

While the books do take a while to be processed none have ever had a problem.. Few weeks later books arrived as assured.

These guys were buying 3 - 5 a time.

Surely if the bikes have been reposed because of non payment of finance agreement there's no way the green book is in the defaulter's name. No finance company will allow registration of the bike until it's paid for in full, after all, doesn't the green book prove ownership in Thailand?

I've bought a few bikes at auction in Chiang Mai, all less than 2 years old. These would not have been sold as for parts use, too expensive. Honda Clicks' a year old at half the price of new is too expensive to break.

Regardless, books came through by post a month later, no problem registering. I suppose there are auctions and other auctions.

Yes, people I also know some people who had very sweet deals with auctions like this... but I also know a lot of people who bought a bag of problems.

With any auction, when the government is not involved you do a double check, and as previous bike owners this is easy... it is nothing for virgin buyers.....

Ther must be a way to check who holds the book. Like Judas said, the finance companies would be unwilling to give ownership before the last payment.

Can anyone remind me of the name of the big auction co outside bangkok.. they have one in Surat Thani less frequently too..

Thats where these guys I know go and buy them in batches.

you wont save much at these auctions, whatever you do save will have to used to pay for tranport, and a new battery. In comparison to the thai market, the prices are the same

Dunno the guys I knew bought these for rentals..

Multiple nuovo MX's at 15 - 20, almost new for a couple k more..

Airblades were 20 - 25..

this was a year or so back when the airblades were a bit newer and you would get easy 30 - 35 on a clean one..

Yes some needed batts, some were dropped and scratched (but those were cheaper)..

I like those hearsay stories. Here in pattaya is an auction every friday, done by the company SIA,who has auctions all over thailand.I read on this forum that the bikes go for a few thousand baht so I went there a few times already to see if this is true.

Last time was last friday and on every bike was the starting bid written. Most of the bikes, mio's and click's, were at least 2 years old and in a not so good condition but the starting bids was nevertheless between 18000 and 22000.

Last week I saw also 2 click i.One was scratched all over and the starting bid was 28.000 and the second was a bit better condition and the starting bid was 29.000.Keep in mind this is the starting bid without the 1070 baht auction fee,500 baht transport, 2500 name change registration and 7% VAT.These were the models with spoke wheels which can be had new for 42.500 at mityon minus 2000 baht reduction from honda.

You still think there can be deals done?

I think at present time you still get easy 35000 for a clean airblade.

I turned one down at 28 recently..

Mates bought 3 of them with 600 kms each, one only a couple of months old for 30k each..

Just gotta find the people who are leaving..

Well can only say about ones I know people buying at.. My little brother bought one truckload (3 bikes) and I know what he paid.. Took a while to get the books mind, about 6 weeks IIRC.

Is the friday auction an evening auction ?? Cos I know he went to a daytime one with success and a evening one which was your typical mugs auction, everyone who works cant make the daytime ones.. Same in the UK, when I was a kid I would bunk of school to buy motors tart em up for pocket money etc.. You could buy a motor on the tuesday or thursday daytime dealers action and just run it back into the friday night punters auction and usually make a penny.. Maybe thats in effect ??

Racking my brains for the name of the place..

For some reason it does take a while to get the green book, I waited about five weeks to get my white plate and green book when I bought a new Honda Wave in Pattaya.

This topic should be renamed Scooter Auction. I don't see any real motorcycles...

CORRECT.

Thats why I said what I said, on post No.2

Dave

Heh heh, well you did say "None OVER 135cc".

I'm no expert on little bikes, but aren't the Honda Sonic or Suzuki Raider about that size (125cc?) yet meet the definition of a 'real' motorcycle, ie. clutch and gears?

But what I see in the auctions on that site are all step through scooters, and no real motorcycles...
