Phuket Immigration - Extending A Child Support Visa

Recommended Posts

I want to ask this question specifically in the Phuket Forum, (got no replies in the visa forum)

Next Monday, I go to Phuket Immigration to apply (for the first time), for a 1-year visa extension based on having a Thai child, (with a certified overseas income of 40,000+ baht/month and my name on the child's birth certificate etc)

Has anyone had success in getting this sort of visa extension from Phuket Immigration? I know that some immigration offices will not grant this extension if the applicant does not have sole custody of the child. I share custody with the mother.

If you had success getting this type of visa extension, can you please post your experience. What documents did you have to provide??

Thanks

This is a recent change so you will want to ask the guys who know it far better in the visa forum..

Before the 'child support' visa was only for over 50's.. Actually intended for the child to support a elderly parent but it worked..

Theres also the 'parent piggyback' on a half and hafl kid in a posh school.. My mate does this from the ex dulwich, his kid uses his farang passport, has a school sorted ED and the parent piggybacks on the ED.. Theres no set money to show but he was told to show them 500k if he could (he can, to him its irrelevant)..

So assuming yours is neither of those, I read that the over 50's one has been recently changed to include the under 50's.. My understanding is the moneatary amount is purely an officer discretion thing..

May I ask.. A few months ago you said you were getting a volunteer visa for your work. Step one in getting a work permit.. What happened ?? they turned you down ?!?!

The monetary amount is the same as for wife. 40k or 400k in bank. But there is provision for exceptions on a case by case basis.

I did indeed get my volunteer police visa. But they will only issue it for 60 days at a time. But also my circumstances have very recently changed in that I have been offered a good job which will curtail/kill the spare time I have for my volunteer work. I want to avoid 'tying' my visa to my work permit, so the child support visa extension is worthwhile going for.

Anyway, I'll go down to Phuket Immigration next Monday with all my documents and see how I get on.

Simon,

How did it go at the immigration office? Did you need consent from the mother?
